Free Navigaional Road Rally: MARCH 15
into the night rallye team proudly presents
TRAINING WHEELS A special novice-oriented 4-hr Monte Carlo style Navigational road rally *****MARCH 15, 2003***** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL LEGAL VEHICLES WELCOME. NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED. This event is an easy, map-based, backroad-oriented, timed event for first-time entrants and experts alike. This is not a race. It is intended to be a test of your map-reading and instruction-following capabilities. However, you are expected to run "on time". Think if it as a giant board game, with the roads and landscape of California for a board and you and your car for a game piece. Opportunities for spirited driving will abound. Paved roads only. 2 people per car (driver and navigator) are suggested. Event runs rain or shine. There are 4 classes: Beginner, Novice, Regular, and Expert. We suggest you bring a clipboard, pen, paper, 3 different colored highlight markers, and a light inside the car, other than the dome light, to read the maps at night. You'll also need a clock that can set the seconds. This event is FREE. It is sponsored by Road/Race Engineering and Into The Night Rallye Team. Preregistration is not necessary, but please email us at [email protected], or leave a message at 310 556 8305, to let us know to expect you. All entries must bring registration, proof of insurance, and your driver's license to the Start, which is located just south of the 10 FWY at the Miliken Exit in Ontario. We are in the TA on the WEST side of Miliken, at the address below. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - Sat. March 15, 2003 Registration/Instruction Location: TA Truck Stop 24265 E. Guasti Rd. I'm going on checkout this Saturday for the rally, and Kanga and I will be working the rally on the 15th.
Crowb4r is coming?? I'll have to remember to reset the clock right before he hits the hose....... = error 100 j/k Best of luck to those who enter, and I hope everyone has a great time. -Roo "That's an automatic?" |

Note: This means all you speed will be able to drive to each checkpoint like crowb4r does.... You were going 13x mph when you crossed that checkpoint, Scott?? .04 late?? Hope to see a bunch of 'spirited' drivers (Please don't drink alcohol to become 'spirited') there on the 15th. PS - Dramamine is suggested for the navigators, and will be available from Kanga and I on the day of the event. |

Bump...and
Just to let you know, I did the rally checkout yesterday. These are GREAT roads. Starts in Ontario, ends in .....
All that in 4 1/2 hours. Bring some Dramamine for your navigator. This event takes you over some beautiful roads, and at speeds that everyone will be happy with. Some spots 100+, and some of it you'll be lucky to get 20mph (hairpins, etc.) -Roo "That's an automatic?" |

I plan on being there, although prolly not in the scooby...I'll be navigating. I wish i could've made last one, but stuff wouldn't work out.
If anyone is considering this, or even just doesnt have plans for the 15th, i would highly recommend it. I had a great time when i did the Old Roads in sept. We made a wrong turn, took a 30 mile "shortcut" up and down a windy dirtroad, and still ONLY got 208 points on the hardest checkpoint. If you like to drive, and have any friends(a navigator) at all, you belong here! |

Just wondering, but do you think it would be a good idea to drive a toyota avalon on this? My friend can drive it pretty well, but my concern is the brakes. It gets pretty bad brakefade after running decker canyon hard(drifting the corners, squeeling the tires on most corneers). Would it be advisable to take this car? Are the roads mostly uphill, downhill, or both? The last part of decker going towards PCH is what does in the brakes. |

Its not the pads, its the discs...one time they were glowing orange! Its "novice" as far as the difficulty level of the checkpoints, right? I'm assuming the roads aren't "novice" roads. |

ROFLMAO
Almost anything is a 'novice' road compared to G16 between King City and the Carmel Valley. We mistakenly traveled this road on the November rally.
These roads will not be putting anyone to sleep, and some of them require a LOT of driver input. What a rally!! -Roo Yes, that is an automatic. |

Oh, that's right, that's your clutch!! Automatics are so much easier to creep with. They just aren't quite as fun in the twisties. BTW, Chri3, there's an MIW meet this Sat, starting @ the Hwy 150 exit in Carp. 4 counties in a few hours....... |

Ha Ha Ha Ha
You will be given maps and directions at the start, and instructed on their use. GPS is fully allowed though. It won't be of any advantage, though. The best advantage you'll get is from purchasing a countdown timer, and coming to the meeting to learn how to use it.
Radio Shack sells the timers. Hope this helps...... ...See you @ standoff -Roo Yes, it's an automatic. |

Hey Roo,
Have fun working the rally. I was down there about three weeks ago and helped put it together! There are definitely some FUN roads. I'll be in Tahoe next weekend and won't make the April event, but I should be down there for the one in June. So when are you guys going to come to one of our events up here? We've got some interesting rallies happening the first couple of weekends in April. Jane 91 Honda Civic Wagon - Sleeper! |

Well....
we'll miss you down here. I'm glad to see you're back in action, though. Last time we talked, your Honda was really sleeping.
I'll try to see if we can fit a 50gal tank in the back. Then I might be able to afford to come up for the rallies. Bay Area gas prices SUCK!! Have a great time in Tahoe. It's beautiful this time of year. If you get that little sleeper stuck, just call me. |
