Well I'm about to give up paying attention to warranty issues and just do what I want with the car anyway. After calling the dealerships service department and talking to them they informed me that it could be a warranty issue if the part I installed caused a problem even if it was a subaru part (aka sway bar or strut brace). Seriously, whatever...subaru lawyers must be paranoid.

+1 to what sgoldste01 said I used the nice big mic that came with the hu. It is mounted right by rear view mirror area. I would say bt call quality is a lot better than oem mic but to each his own
The pioneers have a nav addon that works with these radios however I prefer my nuvi since I travel internationally and update maps quite often More pics and etc located here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...2435877&page=2 I also had installed the brake override, so that myself and soccer moms can watch movies and look at pics while not paying attention to the road skipped sirius/xm as I already have my music taken care of. In terms of bang for your buck 2012 line up pioneer 4400, 8400(got it for cheap so I opted for this over the 5500 also 5500 did not come in time) On the 8400 the first batch contained a defective part which made the touchscreen freeze up. Be careful with the ones you get from amazon if they are from the first batch. 2013 line up 5500, 3500, 8400 navigation addon module http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...tion/AVIC-U220 Last edited by aeoporta; 01-02-2013 at 06:16 PM. |

Either way I think I have made up my mind and am going to go with this one - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X450...4#overview-tab I went to the local audio shop and they were $499 compared to Crutchfield @ $449... but they said they would happily match the price. All in all they'll do that Pioneer unit for $570 installed if I want. That includes the steering wheel control interface. Doesn't seem like too bad a deal... and they said they'd pre-wire it for a subwoofer (I have my old sub sitting in my basement, when I am ready I'll just hook it up myself). Thanks for the suggestion and steering me away from single DIN, lol. It's good to see you have a similar Pioneer and have good things to say about it! NASIOC forums ftw, thanks guys. |

I will mention that. Can you explain that since this is my first time putting in anything other than a basic cd deck in a car. I would assume it controls or disables video playback so you cant watch while driving or something?

I believe there are many things the HU won't let you do while you're driving if you don't have the parking brake override. Things like dial an outgoing Bluetooth phone call from the HU display, watch a DVD (which I agree is a bad idea while driving), adjust fader/balance/etc., and so on.
I've seen how frustrating it is to use a HU that doesn't have the parking brake override. You want one. |

So has anyone tried those spacers from Subtle yet? I've noticed, along with many others, that the rear-end of my car sags much lower than the front. Not sure if its meant to be that way or not, but it looks kind of odd. My only concern is whether or not spacers in the rear would have a possible negative effect on handling and/or braking characteristics?

I saw a post in a separate forum where an XV owner put 20 inch rims on his XV. Now, I admit, this is kind of ridiculous, but that being said, is it possible to put 18's on the Impreza, given it has the same general driveline and engine? If the tires are the right size, would it still perform normally or would that have a strongly detrimental effect on acceleration?

Well I'm looking at upgrades to make to my Impreza. I can live with the wheels, they are kind of growing on me with the silver paintscheme. With regards to the rear sway bar, can someone here confirm if the STI 19mm sway bar is a direct drop in fit for the rear of the car? I need confirmation as the dealer is telling me that it may well not be possible. What other upgrades have you guys done (aside from looks of course) that really had a positive impact on the overall performance of the car?
As a side note I'd like to increase the ride height of the car slightly without any lift kits. Is this possible with tires, for example the Crosstrek tires? I know the effect won't be significant but a half inch or a bit more would be cool if its possible. Thanks! |

Its been confirmed many times the sti sb is pnp. Read the threads from the start. Theres alot in em.
another performance upgrade that comes to mind is perrins crank pulley, also swapping premium fluids into the car. Tires also greatly affect performance. if tires raise car 1/2" that means they are 1" wider than oem. That will affect your speedometer significantly. check tire calculators for exact numbers. |

Hey guys, have any of you seen this forum yet?
http://www.subaruxvforum.com/forum/f...-Modifications Yes, its for the Crosstrek, so its not really directly related to us, but because the Impreza shares most parts with it, I thought it might be relevant. There are some pretty interesting discussions going on over there with regards to aftermarket modifications. Also, I hear a lot about exhaust these days. I know it will enhance the sound of the engine to put an aftermarket kit on, but will it do much else in terms of actual performance? |

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...d-tires-tested Though they tested on a VW, I think the same rules should apply across the board. 15" will give you better acceleration and fuel economy. 18" will get you better on the skid pad, but worse in those other areas. I'll stick with the stock 17". |

I found some things today that you fellows may find very interesting. Aftermarket parts for the Crosstrek...but most should fit the Impreza. 2 inch lift kit first, for the glory and insanity crown:
http://www.sumoparts.com/SUMO-2-Lift...3-XV_p_86.html And second, but possibly more interestingly, carbon parts (hood, grill). Not sure how hard these would be to get over here stateside but I really want that carbon finished grill: http://www.suspart.com/stock/carbon-fiber-car-parts/ |
