Using Polish to clean car before waxing?
Okay, follow me on this...
I know I *should*, clean wax off, polish, then re-wax (okay, I know I'm missing steps like clay bar and such. Here's the deal... I had the car detailed about 3 months ago. Since then I use Wax-as U-Dry and spray waxes frequently. I'm about to put on a quality wax now (this is not meant to be a "which wax" discussion) I was thinking about using a polish to clean whatever is left on there before using my new wax (Collinite 845 IW , if you must know) Does this sound okay, or should I wash and wax over what's on it now? I REALLY DONLT WANT TO DO 3 OR 4 STEPS RIGHT NOW I was thinking that the polish would help prep the surface, since it was detailed 3 months ago I don't know that it will actuallt shine it any better that it is now. SUMMARY: CAN POLISH BE USED TO CLEAN MY PREVIOUSLY WAXED CAR BEFORE APPLYING MY NEW QUALITY WAX

wash the car, dry, polish, wipe down with isoprophyln alcohal to remove anything thats on the car, then apply 1 coat of wax, wait over night apply another. Your good to go. You seem lazy, why not use a sealant instead of a wax.

Yes, I am.
The car really is VERY clean already, I kept it cleaned weekly after teh good detailing. I wasn't thinking of the polish/sealant route. And I really like the Collinite (Don't try to talk me out of it or discuss other waxes - yes, I've read all the threads. |

A polish will remove all wax that is currently on the car.
Alternatively you could also use dawn when washing which will remove the wax that is on the car and no polish will be needed. Some will say that dawn removes the "oils" from your paint, its completely untrue. Using isopropyl alcohol is not really needed with either of these methods. I have heard good stuff about collinite as well, of course im a zaino junkie and will always recommend zaino. |

You want a paint cleaner. Don't use an abrasive product such as polish unless you need to.
Great paint cleaners I enjoy are Zaino AIO Optimum Poliseal (slight polishing ability, really depends on your application though) Klasse AIO |
