Tuning my Link ecu
I was wondering if there was anyone in the tri-state area that could help me tune my link ecu, the guy that is suppose to tune it form me is suppose to know what he is doing but we drove for over 2 hours and he didn't help my car out at all it still runs way too rich i cant even hit the gas and certainly cant run any boost.

First off...did you do a reload before initial installation? and copy that file in 20 areas and put one in a safe deposit box? That is your stock map...leave it alone. Make a copy and edit that one...
Second...why cant you do it yourself? I'm curious as to why you bought it and not fully prepaired to make changes yourself? |

My question is, am I supposed to reload the map, or the OS? And all I got with my ECU was the datalogging software and the programming gui on CD ROM. What disk is the map on? I'm pretty lost, but I havent started so I hadnt bothered to ask yet.

Oh I can understand that...but why not just...play. and when i say play...play safe. I'm learning too...I dont claim to be an expert.
Kinda funny cause right now i'm writing a program to help us Link WRX people tune. Should have a beta out soon. DeliciouSpeed - your stock map is on the Link. BEFORE you start your car on installation. Do a reload with the software. Save that file. Then start your car. I will be posting my stock wrx map on my site soon. I would like to see if they made any changes over time to the map. If people are willing to submit their stock maps. |

The guy that i got it from told me not to touch it he wouldn't even sell me the tuning module, he said he would tune everything himself. I hope he saved the stock map, if he didn't ill have to rip him a new @sshole. This guy was suppose to know what he is doing, but didn't seem to help me at all he just kept saying it would take time because of the larger injectors and FP, I just want to get my car running fine, i mean i cant even punch the gas or it will bogg out and as soon as the boost comes on the mixture runs lean and i cant even hit the stock boost setting it won't go past like 11 lbs probably because of the comp0uter flooding everything it is just a mess and i want to get it tuned right. I would try and do it myself but the guy has my cd-rom software and i am placing an order for the serial link, but what good is the link without the software.
personally i would rather learn an tune it myself it wasn't my idea originally to have him tune it he just wouldn't sell me the other stuff. |

hell yeah rip him a new one. Woudn't sell you the tuning mod...w.t.f is that? Your running so rich right now I can taste it
I would get the tuning mod...and work on it myself. Whats the point of having a tunable ecu w/o being able to tune it. Hey...that sounds like a Unichip *puts flame suit on* |

You can get the software and play with it here:
ARM Developments... Look down by where the Subaru and Honda Links are listed. It's a simple exe file and uploads and installs quickly. Did you get your manual with it? Don't really worry about maps. I'll seend you mine on disk after I install. No problems bro, we will all be doing our best to help eachother. Ken |

give Adam at Z1 a call or email.... even if he didn't sell you the stuff he'd probably be willing to chat with you for a few minutes about it. I'm not saying he's going to spend hours with you on the phone doing it, but maybe get you headed in the right direction.

The stock map is always there in the ECU, just do a reload to get it back, there's definately no need for a backup on that one.
Closed loop lambda is a good and quick way to get the fuelling map right....set proper targets, do short bursts (lambda reads lean when hot). The new Q-chip also has the capability of running closed loop lambda on vaccuum, up to 110kpa (.1 bar), then moving over to fixed map....great stuff... Remember to stay above .86-.87 (12:1) on WOT (this depends heavily on your quality of fuel, and amount of boost, but 12:1 is a good AFR to aim for). /J |

I too fiddle ALOT with the link, been running it for a little over a year now, and been tinkering with it almost everyday. You'll get to a point where it's just small changes...and about perfecting what you've got....and you start to know you're map... You may have noticed a thread that discussed the virtues of the various IHI VF units; 23 vs 30. I have a vf28 w/ an improper turbine A/R ;P20, I'm debating running as is (VF23 spec) or obtaining the proper housing(P18)- I'm told the characteristics between the 24 & 28 are vitually identical. Can you please give us a little insight to the power characteristics of the Vf24 in combination with whatever other modifications you may have. It seems, here in the states, the trend is toward larger - higher capacity units. I'm looking to have a quick, "point and shoot" power delivery. Any advice is appreciated. well i got what i hope will be good news, my tuner at kiwi engineering just in form me that one of his good friends from possum bourne ralley is sending him a map that they use that should work excellent with my mods for what hopes to be a good start im getting tired of running the car under no boost and no more than like 40% throttle it sucks running ridiculously rich that car sounds and drives horrible.
anyways if the map is good i will post it after all it is coming from a very reputable source. |

just to get back to you guys the car is running great the map that i have running now was tuned completely by a separate wideband lambda setup, i will be posting the map here and ill send a copy to sponaugle for his website. The map is only set at 15.5 psi because my factory solenoid wouldn't push any more, but i have already resolved that problem and im in the process of tuning it this week for alittle more boost. Anyway the car still rips and is extremely smooth here are my mods aps intake, M2 TMIC, GFB BOV, M2 turboback exhaust, sti injectors, walbro high pressured fuel pump, vf23 turbo. if you want a map just email me [email protected]

Scooby, you don't still have the stock up-pipe in there do you? You really need to remove that or your datalogs will show incorrect data. YOu have the M2 exhaust, you should also install the second o2 in a bung in the downpipe. The manual says the second o2 must be in front of all cats but after the turbo.

The first car will not throw off the datalogs....jsut tune a bit more conservatively thats all. FWIW, tuning to the O2 voltage is a waste of time...use knock counts, timing and EGT's
