Default 5x100 vs 5x114.3

Wonder if 5x114.3 has any advantages over 5x100 worth doing the conversation.
I'll be doing 06-07 sti tranny swap and wonder if I should also convert to 5x114.3.
I can get rims/struts I want in 5x100, cusco has lsd rear diffs for WRX, you can get bbk in 5x100 as well.

My car is currently dd but it will be a track car in a long shot.

5x114.3 is a stronger hub design as far as a dd as long as you dont have an outrageous set up 5x100 should be fine however you may find that there are more wheel options for 5x114.3

for a daily, like jdmboy said, the only real advantage is a wider selection of wheel sizing options....and even for your use, thats probably not that much of a "plus" to the conversion.

keep in mind that if you do the 5x114.3 conversion, you'll need the entire rear end from the same year sti as well.

^^ yeah, I know, and its not cheap, thats why I'm wondering if its worth it

Well, basically the main purpose of this thread is to determine if I should buy 5x100 TE37 via Kami group buy going on now. I really LOVE TE37 and once I get them (in 5x100 or 5x114.3) I won't be looking any further. So I don't really care about "more wheel options".
And what is that stronger hub design is all about? I'll have to replace bearings e.g. every 50k instead of 25k or does it have more important impact?

You're looking at spending ~$1,000 to do the conversion.

ok here we go
bolt patterns are just circles 5x100=5 bolt spaced around a 100mm circle
as opposed to 5x114.3 which = 5 bolts spaced around a 114.3mm circle

this extra 14.3mm cuts down on the leverage that the wheel has on the hub. get it?

jdmboy, thx for the comments, but I do know the theory, what I care about is it's impact on practice.

So is the width of the wheel and the size of that side wall. You're gonna have a lot of fun trying to get that to work on a wagon.

yea thats getting to the point that it would probably be a good idea to do the swap if your going to track the car.

Keep in mind if you plan on using the rear STi Brembo setup you will have to swap to either JDM STi rear hubs or 04 STi rear hubs.

This really isn't to bad, there are plenty of guys running setups like this for a good while now without any wheel bearing issues. You can also look into the 6gun setup that allows you to use the 05+ wheel bearings.

you'd HAVE to run a 35 sidewall. I have a lower offset, and am loww. I could MAYBE squeeze a 245/40 with my monster of a pull..on a sedan.

On a wagon, its going to be pretty much impossible. You need less tire with that low of an offset.

And what type of driving where you planning on doing to justify such and obnoxious/extravagant wheel/tire setup? How much power are you making?

Those aren't wagon fenders btw.

I'm not sure if what you said is what you meant. The bolt circle will have no effect on the hub in and of itself. Think if the wheel had no bolts and was glued on with some super duper glue. The forces to the hub and bearings would not change.

What does change is the lateral forces near the center of the wheel itself. The closer to the center of the wheel the bolts are, the more lever arm the tire cornering forces can exert on the wheel between it's outer edge and the bolts. Everything within the bolt circle has essentially zero force. So the farther out the wheel is bolted to the hub, the less force is exerted to "bend" the wheel.

The short answer is that the STi hub assembly is stronger. If you're tracking the car, the added strength will help. If the cost is exorbanant for a street car and you're buying aftermarket wheels anyways......it's probably not at all worth it.

Shagon's fenders are far from stock. Custom rear quarters + sedan front fenders.

yes this is what i ment basically my understanding is that the farther the bolts are away from the center of the wheel the less amount of leverage on the bolts and also the hub. sorry for the bad wording of my original post

the only real benefit is having a wider wheel selection.
