Difference between 04 & 05 WRX motors??
Hi Guys,
I need a lil help here... Can anyone tell me if theres a difference between a 04 & 05 WRX motor? I currently have a 04 WRX with a bad motor and just picked up a clean 05 WRX motor w/ 62k on it to replace it. I can not find an exact answer wether that motor drops right in without changing anything on the motors. Some people are saying you must swap the intake manifolds and thats it, but then others are telling no. I just want to get this straight before I install the motor. Everything is alot easier to swap with the motors out. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The only reason I can think to swap the intake manifolds would be the PCV assembly. It was very goofy on the '04's. Take a look at that portion of it and you should be able to figure it out.

You would not need to swap intake manifolds because they are the same and both use throttle cables instead of drive-by-wire. STI's use drive-by-wire and that would be the only time you would need to swap intake manifolds. Just pull out the old and put in the new, no part swapping needed.
