I don't suggest the OTS tunes that COBB offers because they're just like a factory tune: made to run on ANY vehicle, in ANY weather, under ANY conditions. The OTS tunes give you some extra power, are generally more safe than the lean factory tune, but leave a lot to be desired (from what I've heard).

If you get a Pro Tune, and I suggest you do, the process is very similar between the COBB AP or the Tactrix. One of the nice things about the Tactrix is that it doesn't marry to your car, so you can borrow one of ours to tune your car, and you're not out any money.

Aron and I used Ron from PhatBotti, and neither of us were pleased with his communication skills. The tune he did for my car (pretty much stock, but it had an UP, Turbo Back, bigger injectors, intake, and boost controller) was great, but Aron's car is a bit more involved and he wasn't happy with the results.

I've heard that STi_Mikey of PhatBotti I'd better, and is be willing to try him, but there are a bunch of other reputable tuners that the locals use. Talking to us in person is a lot easier than explaining everything via text (although it seems like I'm trying to anyways, haha).
That was pretty helpful, thanks! I agree with you though this would be easier to discuss in person. Now that the weather is getting a bit warmer I hope to see more meet ups going on. Weekends, preferrably Is this forum the way you usually organize them or should I give someone my email or something that organizes them? I would definitely like to learn more about the options for tuning. Well, and drink beer.

I will vouge my .02 also. I haven't dealt with either of the PhatBotti boys, other than a few PMs w/ Ron, which I will say were responded to quickly.

I had a Dyno tune w/ Junior and he knows what is going on inside the motor at any given time and more importantly... why. He's very open and listens to what you want. I wanted my pump gas tune conservative, and he gave it to me.

If you have an AP he loves tuning on that, and his tunes over the internet are pretty reasonable.

Good Luck

Phatbotti BOOM BOOM tuning

I would run a Cobb OTS map before running a cheap opensource tune. Or I can get you a solid e-tune for around $300 from a reputable tuner.

From who? Open Source or just AP? I'm debating just doing a MAF based tune and calling it good enough. :P

Yes. He used to have an ej207 with 3076 in his car. He seems to know everything about them( either that or he's bull****ing me) and he says he has a perfect(or very close to) maps for the setup. And thus far I have had no bad experience with him so it's hard not to.

I might look into getting a tune from him as well.

Haha I'm sure, I'm sure. Unfortunately I've had to use my warranty twice already for differential problems. In fact, they have my car right now fixing it for a second time, different issue. I have a thread in the warranty forums about it if anyone cares Long story short there was a couple of known issues from SOA about my models differential I guess but it should all be fixed by tomorrow/Friday and shouldn't have any more issues. Maybe then I'll think about voiding that warranty

I'd love to ride in someone's WRX that has it tuned but not too many engine mods so I can feel the difference it makes. I'm very curious.

He will e-tune anything with less than a 20g

Anything larger needs to be speed density and running a Cobb AP

LOL!

I really want to go Speed Density, but the guy that I'm going to have tune my car is in Indiana somewhere. :/ My problem with that is either having my car blow up on me down there, or have my mods not be up to snuff. That's what I like about e-tuning: if something happens or you need to upgrade/fix something, you're not out any driving time, dyno time, or tune time.

Kinda like driving to Chicago for a dyno tune. Just to find out you have a pressure leak. And then turn around and come home. I don't speak from experience or anything :/

Smoother operation, no need for a MAF, per gear boost control, FFS/NLS/LC/AL, I can run a BOV without over fueling, and more. :P
