HELP analyzing these times 240whp
I think that i suck.
here are my slips this was my first time r/t .428 .276 .503 60ft 2.059 2.123 1.930 330 5.737 5.865 5.568 1/8 8.934 9.032 8.949 mph 77.8 78.82 73.06 1000 11.637 11.703 11.753 1/4 13.934 13.971 14.090 mph 98.75 99.96 96.91 what am i doing wrong. I dont have horrible 60ft times. I know for a fact that i have to shift slow because my transmission grinds if i shift fast. That has alot to do with it. I just replaced the fluid and that has helped alot. How is it that i can barely run above stock. my mods are FMIC, utec, turboback, headers, uppipe, intake, boost at 17.5. You think the headers have something to do with me losing alot of my topend. Any help would be nice cause im pretty new to the drag racing thing. Any suggestions on how to shift faster or launch better. I have read the stickies, but what seems to work better for you personally. thanks alot adam I have 243whp 253 wtq if you didnt read the title...

I would say it's because of your shifting and your 60 ft. You should try to get around 1.7 60 ft's and that will bring down the time substantially. If your tranny is grinding in between shifts you might want to give up drag racing for awhile or you will be replacing it sooner than later.

Are you running a custom map or a TXS provided UTEC Stage map? On the driver side, definitely get the sixties down in the 1.8's. You are still picking up 21-23 mph on the topend though. What dyno did you put down your numbers?

I am running a map made by andy at xoticmotorsports. I believe the numbers were on a dynojet
what do you mean by picking up 21-23mph on my top end? Also, any launching techniques or shift points to help me get better times? I generally rev up to about 4500 and slip the clutch. It always smells like it is burning thats normal tho right. Also i shift at redline. Should i be shifting before? |

Not really. Just search for how to launch. There are people who have been running more mods than you have for years and have made MANY passes at the strip with no problems.

the time seems right to me tho..some stock STI times, which is about same hp level. but the 60ft probably not good enough..and shifting slow for sure slow it abit.
and better tires.. |

ok, i just got back from doing some practice launches. tell me what you think.
I tried to build up boost by flikcing the gas pedal up to 5000 but i couldnt get it out of vacum. Finally i just floored it and revved it up to the rev limiter. I let it bounce off for less then a second, and then slipped the clutch very fast. I saw when it was bouncing off i was at around .5kpa or about 7 psi. I got some wheel spin(tires at 32psi) but it seemed like i got off the line really fast. Is it bad to do that cause something tells me that it is? haha. also i think that my shift into second kills cause it rocks the car like nothing... any tips? |

you cant build boost without load on the engine. only way to build boost on the line is either hold the brake and slip the clutch (bad for clutch), or use the UTEC's launch control function (bad for just about every part of the driveline).......or Anti-lag, and then you can plan on replacing turbos every other month or so. the way i was taught (and works rather well for me, as the guy who taught me has one of the few 12second stock turbo WRX's in the US) is bounce it off the limiter once, and catch it as it comes down, hold @ ~4000rpm, and release the clutch smoothly (quickly, obviously, but not so quick as to bog/stall) it takes a LOT of practice. as stated above, dont race unless you can afford to fix whatever breaks. as far as shifting: your 1/2 is the most important. you SHOULD get a bit of wheelspin, not too much though. you want to shift quickly, but dont jam the shifter back into second (jamming gears can bend a shift fork). i usually stab the clutch to the floor, and let it out as fast as i can raise my knee (note, do NOT sidestep the clutch) you can ride 3rd gear ALMOST too the traps, but you will need to shift to 4th ~ 100ft before the traps. i usually redline first, 2nd/3rd shift @ 6000-ish (td04 makes NO power up top) car hasnt been to the track since ive begun tuning. last time i went, i was running snow tires, a slipping clutch, and a stg.2 OTS map (mods: up/dp/LOTS of porting and polishing, APS inlet, APS cai, couple other random bolt on's that i cant remember, stock IC...and mind you, i was untuned for all the extra stuff i did).....@ 13psi (all i could get out of it @ that point), and a slipping clutch and my snow tires spinning all the way through first, and about 10-15ft through 2nd, i managed a 14.2 @ 97.8mph |

New update to all who gave me advice. I dont have the timeslips right now. but I will post them later. Just to give you the times i went friday night. I slipped the clutch and shifted at redline for 1/2. at 6500 for 2/3 and at 6000 for 3/4 my overall peak was 18.5 psi.
i ran a 1.9 60ft and did a 13.500 @102 then ran a 1.8 60ft and did a 13.3 @104 I think i can get it down a bit more with a 1.7 60ft and some powershifting haha thanks again to everyone who helped me run 1 rt .433 .079 60ft 1.926 1.816 330ft 5.567 5.485 1/8 8.652 8.557 mph 81.05 81.50 1000 11.297 11.190 1/4 13.500 13.376 mph 102.93 103.81 Last edited by rexspeedmaster; 11-19-2006 at 07:13 PM. |
