Yeah, that tattered tent thingy just adds to the sadness there.
On another note, I'm garaging my Jeep for a while starting next week. While it's there, - Building/installing 4.5 stroker - installing 5 1/2" lift, sye, and rear locker that have been waiting 6 months - sliders and tube bumpers welded-up - a good winch and set of lights ...god, I can't wait to start on this. Already got the garage cleared-out. |

Was out mudding with a friend the other day, in his '93 xj, when all hell broke loose. His fan shroud came loose on one corner and his fan started hitting it. This caused his slightly loose worn-out serp belt to start slipping a bit. 1/2 the width of the belt shredded and the rest slipped off. This stopped turning his alternator and water pump and the engine temp skyrocketed. The coolant pressure was too much for the system to handle and the 4-way heater valve burst. This was his first time taking it out mudding, didn't bring any tools or spare parts with him, and was starting to have a meltdown on the side of the trail. It took a bit of doing, but I got him going again. Trimmed the fray off the usable 1/2 of the serp belt and put it back on, properly tightening it. Ziptied the shroud back and rerouted the coolant hose, cutting-out the heater. Two jugs of water and a quick priming of the coolant system saw him on his way home safely. Actually, I'm going by his place after work. I helped him install a new clutch slave a few days ago, and had to show him how to safely remove/reinstall a tranny. Should have him in good shape for the weekend. |

Yeah nothing went supernova on mine. Ok it's a bit weird, but when I bought it almost 2 years ago the heater didn't work for ****. I figured I'd have to invest in an 8 hour dash tear-out to swap the heater core, then all of a sudden about 5 days ago the heater started working and the low coolant light turned on. Turns out the radiator end tank blew. I guess there must have been air in the system, and the crack allowed it to bleed out. Some ass clown put the wrong coolant in it before I bought it too, so it looks all muddy and brown. I went to the local radiator shop, guy said it's common for the end tanks to die, then he said my water pump was thrashed too. Hmmmmm. He's the expert... it seemed fine to me though. Then he came back with a quote of almost $900 and they could get it done that day. Ha. Right. So I went to Napa and ordered a pump, radiator, new hoses, tstat, spark plugs, serpentine belt, radiator cap, etc. Might as well, since I'm in there. Pulled the front end ALL apart. headlights, header panel, radiator, bumper, everything from the motor forward is scattered in my garage. Water pump, tstat, what a friggin DREAM compared to the old LA-style motors. Got it all back together, filled the fluids, fired it up, walked back out front, and it was dumping Mercon/Dexron out the fitting on the tranny cooler. Popped it apart, no o-ring. Damn. Found it, on the ground under a towel, buttoned it back up, and stripped out the tranny cooler. Damn. |

Yeah, Jeep motors are easy as hell to work on. Replacing a head, water pump, thermostat... it's all easy stuff. A lot of stuff that AMC borrowed from Chevy that Chrysler had the foresight to leave alone. |

Anyone know how to add a snorkel to an 03 grand cherokee (V8)? My friend wants to add one, but apparently no one makes one for it. I've heard that one for an xterra can be modified to fit, but I don't know how true that is. Anyone have experience with this?

Just checking in on this thread with my wife's JK Wrangler X. We bought it new last February and so far all we've done is cosmetic (decals and brush guard). She really loves off-roading, so mods definitely are in this Jeep's future. The only problem is that my wife has a rare arthritic condition that affects her ability to lift and climb some days, so a lift is pretty much out of the question since this is her DD. We're going to do some wheels with beefier tires (will probably have to modify the fenders to make them fit without a lift), skid plates, and whatever else we can to get it trail ready. Any suggestions?

If you plan on doing anything more than light offroading you'll want to invest in some armor (skid plates, rock sliders, etc.)

yotas can play too. I was pretty impressed with mine (black runner) considering the suspension is 100% stock and its IFS. My buddies has a lift and is solid front axle

Bear River Reservoir, yes. Great spot
I have a complete SA, arc welder and torch. I need all the mounting stuff, springs, shocks and a lift for the rear to match. I was thinking the 63" chevy swap would work out nice. also want to make a rear bumper |

92 subaru loyale, 4" lift, 235/75r15's, EJ22 out of a legacy, dual range 4x4 tranny out of an older GL, clutch type LSD in the rear, homebuilt front bumper, skidplates, and lots of repairs to the body. It's missing the winch in that pic because I rear-ended a ford ranger and popped the magnets loose inside the winch motor. 9k MM normally fills the hole in the grill. 71 Ford Bronco. 302, 3spd. I'm building a 351 for it now, and looking for a 5spd. It can do 110mph with the 3spd and 4.11:1's but the MPG would be a fair bit better with the 5spd. It has a 2.5" suspension lift now, and a roll bar in the back. |
