World's Most Powerful Supercomputer Goes Online
Now this is a scary thought:
Quote:
Yep, that's right. The most powerful supercomputer in the world is basically a metric ass-tonne of home PCs that have been pwnt by the Storm trojan. -A

hehe no one actually read that link.
Anyways, the author of the link posted made some pretty baseless assumptions anyways. Not to mention a cluster with interlinks capable of sustained throughput of say 256kbps or so is going to be pretty useless for doing anything other then aggregating that 256kbps into a 256gbps DDoS attack. |

Haha, the numbers put out in this article are total bunk. Supercomputers are measured in MIPS or TFLOPS, not in number of processors. This thing couldn't hope to touch the performance of something like BlueGene/L.
Hell, BlueGene/L is up to 360 TeraFLOPS, and the new BlueGene/P is apparently configurable to up to 3 PetaFLOPS. I'd like to see any combination of home PCs touch that... hell, if you clustered every home PC in the United States you might not get the level of actual performance over time that you'd see with BlueGene/P. |
