Straight through is always going to be best. Quad tips are aesthetics. I definitely prefer the look, but the weight and possibly flow make it a harder decision.

I've always thought the quad tips were silly, reminds me of a grand am. Dual is silly too but all the singles are so loud..unless this new one isn't...sounded pretty mellow in the vid

Maybe the new exhaust has 4 tips on one side....

Jokes aside, Any style of tips are for aesthetics. Any quad tip or single tip can flow the same amount, or more than the other, depending on the characteristics of the exhaust. The one and only advantage of the single tip over the quads, if comparing two exhausts that have been designed to flow the same amount, is weight. In general, yes the single tip will probably flow more than most quad tip styles on the market due to relatively poor design. Though when I am running quad tips with no mufflers, no cats, and a full 3" system, I would bet my car that my exhaust can flow just as much, if not more than any N1 style. |

the muffler being sideways must hurt flow to some extent

I'm just referring to all 5 door quad/dual setups

Haha, yeah. Maybe it's that!

It's not going to flow more than a straight though 3". It still has to squeeze through that 3" midpipe. A good analogy is a fire hose on the end of a garden hose. It's not going to flow more just because you've added a giant hose onto the end. This is especially true because the split is so far towards the end of the system. Then it basically comes down to 1/2 of that split just being dead weight and aesthetics. A true dual exhaust (ie. not on a turbo'd car) is a different story. Quote:

FYI - There are quad tip, muffler deletes for the hatches too. The tips themselves don't matter much, but the single pipe is still going to flow the best and weigh the least. BUT... Quad tips still look the best. |

Oh yeah, and the debate was supposed to be whether or not exhausts can affect power (not theoretical flow rates).

Just because were on the subject I put my hands up to each of my muffler tips while my car was running, the two outer pipes (so if they were lined up 1-2-3-4, 1 and 4) seemed to have the most flow, so maybe the quad is somewhat useless, restrictive even, I don't know just a thought. I have the SPT for reference, I am considering getting a custom dual exhaust from a local muffler shop in hopes that it will sound like the nameless muffler delete system, but it'll probably sound like crap and be way too loud for highway use.

After seeing some of the exhaust jobs people get around here I would never get custom exhaust work lol. Id rather pay the extra money for something I know won't look like ****.

Yeah, the cheap jobs are cheap. If you get 304 SS and mandrel bends you will probably pay more than you would for something like a Nameless. I was seriously considering a 3" midpipe to go with the SPT muffler for a while. That seemed like it had a lot of potential (decent flow, good sound, fairly quiet). |

Just out of curiosity, have you let the mrs. drive this beast? That might help change her mind on it sounded like a racecar under WOT.
