4.11 ring and pinion into a 6 speed case?
Ok,
So i have done some searching and haven't been able to find what I am looking for. From what I know, Rallyspec makes a 4.44 front diff I believe for the sti. Get a R160 4.44 from a forester xt and be set. Obviously going with an 04 sti transmission would be better because of the 1:1 transfer case for the center diff. Any way, I know about the nissan 4.11 R180 ring and pinion that can be swapped over to the sti rear R180. However, is there also a way to take the same 4.11 ring and pinion from the nissan R180 and swap that in place of the 3.9 ring and pinion in the sti front diff? This is the 6 spd I want to have built by combing these two gear sets from RalliSpec Albins 6 Gear Subaru 6MT Helical Synchro Set $6100 (Ratios -- 3.36 / 2.46 / 1.88 / 1.50 / 1.24 / 1.04) and RST-F145kit High Speed 2nd-6th Ratio Conversion W/ REM ISF $1325 (Ratios -- STD / 2.235 / 1.521 / 1.137 / 0.891 / 0.707) to get this --> (ratios-- 3.36 / 2.235 / 1.521 / 1.137 / 0.891 / 0.707 Would be a sweet setup if possible

What did you want to use from each gear set? What are you trying to shoot for?
We run the regular Legacy Spec B gear set and it works just fine. |

In short no, you can not swap the ring and pinion from a r180 rear diff in place of the front diff in the case the pinion gear is part of the secondary gear shaft.

I understand that Is there a way to have a 4.11 ring and pinion made or fitted to the 6 spd front diff? I believe the 6 spd main shaft is slightly larger than the 5 spd main shaft so the rs 4.11 front diff ring and pinion is out. Or is it? |

I personally looked into this previously. I wanted dccd and utilize 4.11 fd. I intended to use a jdm 5spd. with a 4.11 fd sporting the earlier dccd. I wanted to use the r180 for strengthening purposes as I have heard of r160 getting thrashed to bits at moderate power levels. As for the six speed the front diff would have to be a custom part which you may be able to have made, but I am not sure. Unfortunately, I changed my own course of action before attempting to piece together a 4.11 r180 for the subaru so i don't know how the ring and pinion would compare nissan to subaru; this was due to the strength of the 6spd and gas mileage that would have resulted from the short gearing (i opted for a standard 6spd and standard gear ratio). I personally don't know what your application for this drivetrain is, but it will be super short but lots of fun. i can tell you the front diff is for sure different then the 5spd version.

3.9 is fine, but why not do something different for a 6 spd?? If I can get the custom 4.11 ring and pinion for the sti front diff I'll try it. If at the end I can't do the 4.11 I'll just do the standard 3.9 then The car will be driven some dd but more so for spirited and the occasional drag strip run.
