How much for the remote tune? Is it like XPT Tuning?

Braden from XPT is actually part of EQ now and is heading out remote tuning services. Most custom remote tunes are around $400.

Thanks

Gotcha! Since I'm down in the Monterey area, he was pushing me to have you dyno tune this rebuild. Makes sense why now.

Make me a sick deal I can't refuse. I got severely burned($$$) the last time I had it dyno-tuned and have been skeptical about tunes ever since... The tune was worse than the OTS map I was running. Worse timing, boost and fuel economy all around. I was not able to get my $$$ back.

Our pricing is not really negotiable, but I can promise that we stand behind all of our work and products. If there are any issues, we always take care of it without any additional charges. I can also guarantee that you that it'll be MUCH better than any base map

Got my heads back from EQ today... holy crap I can't even believe that these are my heads with 128k on them. They are pristine and the CNC looks spectacular!

Great to hear! You'll really love them once the car is running

Hey I have a 2004 sti and I'm starting to get some valve noise so I am starting to look at my options. I was thinking about 2.0L heads but my question is the ports are bigger on the 2.0L head vs. 2.5? Because if not what's the point of putting 2.5 combustion chamber in the 2.0 head?

There's no good reason to go to 2.0l heads on an STI as you would miss out on the AVCS. This option is meant mainly for hybrid builds when people already have 2.0l heads to start with.

For your valve noise, you probably just need a valve lash adjustment or possibly a valve job.

^^I've got way noisy valves - Machine shop ground a little too much off the tips, and thus I have 2 that are a wee bit on the loose side (ie .12 instead of .10)... sounds like my dads charger now(the valve noise, not the engine/exhaust). A little noise is no reason to tear the car apart unless the noise is a catastrophic meltdown.

Ed, I'm saving my pennies to come have it tuned on the dyno. Not sure when that'll be though.

Do you guys do any porting to go along with a CNC chamber? I'm looking to have a set of bone-stock heads w/78k miles FULLY refreshed/built.

still a bit fuzzy about options for 2.0 to 2.5 hybrid.

are 'big port' jdm version 6 heads better than 2003 stock 2.0 heads? if you were to buy these 'big port' heads for use on a hybrid do they need to be opened up like the usdm 2.0 WRX heads? are you better off starting with the v6 heads and then opening them up (because they flow better than USDM WRX heads before porting? )

second question. i've heard different opinions on this. can you set the valve buckets (lash) once you've machined the heads as part of the job or do the heads need to be torqued on the block before the correct valve lash can be set with buckets?

Q1:?
Q2: You should always set the lash AFTER the heads are torqued to the block. You can get close to setting the lash before, but mine have always changed after I torqued the head onto the block.

Yep, we offer all other head work services as well (5/3 angle valve job, deck re-surfacing, bowl blending, and full P&P with gasket matching).

Thanks

Any 2.0l heads should have the combustion chamber opened up to match the 2.5l bore. Big port heads will flow more than usdm heads, so they may be a better starting point depending on your setup and goals.

Valve lash should be set after the heads are torqued to the shortblock.

FYI, we also offer fully built shortblocks and can also build and ship full longblocks. In this case, we set the valve lash in house.

Default Core Charge An Option?

going for a 2.5 bottom with 2.0 head rebuild of 03 wrx with 150k miles...

do you offer fully reconditioned and cnc'd heads without mine? I'd pay a core charge up front and then you refund after receipt of my heads. Understand the refund is variable depending on condition of my heads. That would save me car downtime to have the heads ready for install.

We don't currently offer a core exchange like that. The variance in head conditions is so high that it would be tough to do this fairly.

Thanks
