Questions about WRX AC pulley
I was looking around under the hood of my WRX and I noticed that the AC pulley tensioner was broken. I picked up the part at local Subaru dealer and now I have a question: Is that pulley suppose to turn when the AC is going or is it a static pulley that does not spin? The other two pulleis appear to spin but I'm not sure about this one.

Are you referring to the AC compressor itself? If so the compressor has an electric clutch on the pulley that drives it, so when the AC is not running only the outside (the part that contacts the belt) will be turning, while the inside (which is actually attached to the compressor shaft) will not turn until the clutch engages.

Does that pulley spin if you turn it by hand with the belt off? If it doesn't it's NG and has to be replaced. It would make sense actually, the pulley bearing probably seized and that's why the bracket broke. Check it and if it's bad (which it sounds like it is) make another trip to the dealer for a new pulley.
