I'm glad you finally got it to work right. It makes sense that the hard rear diff bushings would transmit a lot of vibration.

Update: This car is no more. It was totaled and is now gone. Thankfully no one was hurt.
I have replaced it with a 2012 Forester (2.5L NA with auto tranny) for day to day use. I plan on starting a new project car when time permits (and I find the right vehicle to start with). In the end, I think this is a much better scenario for me and my family. A good daily driver (that I won't be tempted to do any power mods to), and a weekend car that I can make much faster without having to worry about day to day reliability and comfort or having to put on 10-15k miles a year. I have a feeling some people will be skeptical because of how I've implied things like this in the past, but this time it has already happened. The WRX is gone and the Forester is my daily driver. I will post a thread with photos and info on the Forester sometime soon, but it will not be an extensive build like this one became. Thank you to everyone who followed along with this project and provided support and insight. I learned a lot with this car and met a lot of great people along the way. There was a lot of time and effort into the WRX, but in the end it's just a car, and I do plan on continuing on to something else in the Subaru world in its place. Here is a shot of the Forester: |

Glad everyone is okay but Sad to see such a contributing member lose such a well built vehicle :/
Are you parting it out or are you letting the insurance just take it away ? |

It was truly a fantastic and inspirational car! The Forrester looks like it fits your family much better. PS. Dibs on your stock head unit if you ever upgrade it!

That could be fun. But I'm thinking something older. And much, much faster It's the same head unit as the WRX. Do you need one for some reason? Or did you want the nav unit? |

Ben did the insurance company afford you any time to get some of the goodies that weren't ruined off the car? I hope they would, that would at least help you recoup some of your investment into the car. Good luck man! Supra maybe? You said older and faster, hmmm

Sorry, that's not the head unit I have. Mine is identical to the WRX, and actually sounds a lot worse.
No parts were taken off the car. I'll only have the stock parts to sell. Right now the plan is to get another Subaru. It is a familiar platform with great local support from NF, and I like the idea of AWD. No point in having power if you can't put it down. Coming from a nearly 600WHP car that would grip even in 1st gear, I just don't think a RWD car would be as fun when it can break loose at highway speed. Watching Supra speedo videos and seeing them spinning at 150mph just doesn't seem worth it. I want to actually be able to use the power without needing slicks and a prepped track. Sounds like you want a 1st gen impreza to swap/build. They are definitely old, and more lightweight (faster).
That would fill the two qualifications of older and faster. |

Thanks all.
I've thought about it. I like the weight/looks for sure. I just don't really want to deal with a harness/ECU swap, so I'm leaning more towards an older WRX or STI. Mainly just keeping my eyes open and seeing what's out there. |

Sorry to hear about the loss of the car. I know I always checked this thread to see what crazy **** you had planned next. Good to see it was covered and you are in a good family hauler.
As far as new project, you want old, good power, and AWD? Find a nice, legal, R32 Skyline and go with a full retard build haha. I'm pretty sure the R32 is the one you can legally import to the states with an assload if paperwork and headaches. But it would be worth it. |

Although, I've read that harness merges aren't too bad anymore. Having iWire merge them is a popular option over at rs25. Takes out the wiring difficulties of the swap, making life easier. You can't go wrong with a bugeye or 04/05 either. Last edited by RavensFan7; 06-19-2013 at 08:38 PM. |

Joking aside, glad everyone is ok and sorry to see the cars life ended so abruptly. It would have been nice to see what else you may have got out of it. Good luck in your future project! |

Anyone else think the WRX may be gone to have work done, and the Forester is the DD b/c it's replacing the civic. Just saying, there's been so much mystery in the past this is hard to swallow, mostly b/c it'll be a shame if the WRX is truly gone.
