My wife and I are interested in the new XT. Is it me or you can only get leather interior with nav? I want leather but the Subaru nav/touchscreen SUCKS. I have a friend with a BRZ and he said he was sure there would have to be a recall of some kind on the nav unit. Always loses signal, changing the radio is a chore and takes your eyes off the road for longer than it should. I don't see an option for leather without the nav?

Btw, this thread is great, lots of great info here. I haven't posted in over 3 years since I sold my 02 WRX.

With XT, it is either the stripped down premium trim without all weather package or fully loaded touring model.

What a complete f'n waste of a platform.

I've been a Subaru loyalist for 16 years now....and have held my breath for them to produce something for me to buy. (would be my 4th)

All of the recent forester XT's (I have a 2004 XT) that I remotely liked or thought that I could sex up....did not come with a manual. Mind numbing stupidity.

I've waited for them to produce an Legacy STI or equivelent to compete with the entry BWI / Audi's. Nothing buy crickets and downgrades from Subaru.

If those spy shots of the WRX are anything close to what the 2014 looks like, then it looks like I'm finally done. I have to buy a new car in this year....and can no longer justify spending my Money on such a souless looking vehicle that has no identity.

Oh well.....Change is good. Audi's AWD is decent......but I'll just have to save a few more pennies.
I love them but I'm with you.

I'm looking for a bigger vehicle next, a forestor, x1 size is what I'm after. I found though, that you can't get a forestor with leather and a manual?! What's up with that.

It's offered on the brz, and wrx/sti, but no fozzy >_<

Their American correspondence don't believe hatchbacks and wagons/CUV's can gather enough enthusiasts to foot the bill of bringing them over. If you guys have anyone to blame, it's the people driving next to you who aren't as interested in quick sports sedans as Subaru of America believes you are. Because, you know, we ONLY want performance sedans from Subaru, not wagons, hatchbacks, and CUV's. At least according to Tom Doll.

What a doll.

So that basically includes manual transmissions for their sport orientated vehicles that AREN'T sedans like the Subaru Forester XT (buh-bai Legacy GT and Spec.B, Outback XT). And that's perfectly fine since I don't want a manual XT when I can have a DSG or HT-CVT.

Don't ya love how Subaru packaged the '14s!?
They're either very smart or very dumb.
They knew we wanted leather, but most cold give a crap about $2k nav.
So... Why not force $2k nav with leather? KaChing!

Yeah. I'd take an XT premium with leather and be done with it. I don't need eyesight, HID's I can do myself. Come on, Subaru?!

Changing the radio is easy. Easy on the NAV screen. Voice commanded, or a simple push of the mode button on the steering wheel. Just like all Subaru's. I hated it at first and there are still things I don't like about it versus my 09 NAV, but I have learned it more and it isn't soo bad.

They did it based off previous sales(and inventory complexity). People buying Touring models were more likely to get NAV also; so, the comment that most could give a crap is not accurate.

Subaru's nav/touchscreen has been terrible pretty much since they started offering it. Smart consumers most likely would NOT want a bad navigation system. I would say in general people would prioritize leather interior over a wonky nav.

Some people got over the horrible Subaru navigation in the Tribeca and Legacy/Outback and actually started using the hieroglyphic navigation system. Some people actually like it and that's understandable. Different products for different people. Honestly, I'd rather opt for Kia's UVO system or BMW/Audi just for the voice recognition and navigation. I swear I have a Garmin top of the line nuvi and it has a hard time recognizing my voice so I have to stress my voice even more with the music and A/C or heat off.

My Razr Maxx knows my voice better than my ~$500 Garmin. Unfortunately the Bluetooth quality isn't great in my Subaru so it's a win/lose situation.

Sure; but that doesn't change the fact of what people actually bought and why Subaru is packaging it the way they are.

We just sold 3 NAVs yesterday.

These stock oddball tire sizes on both the 17" and 18" versions of the Forester are pretty dismal. Your choices are junk car all-seasons or junk truck all-seasons.

People with the XT should just go straight to something like a 245/50/18 for a much wider choice of summer tires and might as well grab some extra width while you're at it. Of course, at that size, the tires are all pretty $$$ though worth it.

I don't want summers yet. It's only April. I need all-seasons/winter until late May living in Colorado.

So true. Especially of late, one day you could be running summers, the next you need winters.

I take it your a salesman/work at a Subaru dealer? If so, have you heard anything about a possible recall for the nav system. Also there is NO way I can get an XT premium WITH leather and NO Nav?

Just go dual sets, there's really no reason to not to if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

You can run a summer set to basically bald when you only deal with non winter driving conditions. An extra set of used 17" wheel is maybe a few hundred bucks used. After you're done, you sell it back out for the same money.

Haven't heard of a "recall". There is a campaign for those that bought NAVs before January 2013(without Aha) that they can come in and swap out their NAV unit for one with Aha for $100.

Look up an auto upholstry company. They should be able to help. Just make sure they do the leather for the front seat side airbags right.

The Subaru dealership next to my house actually refer one company to people ergo would like to swap out cloth for leather. The company charges about a grand for the entire car. Just to give you an idea of how much it costs.
