GR STI impossible to diagnose driveline squeak
Hi all--sorry to drop a "help!" message but I am losing my mind. I have a chirp or squeak somewhere along the drivetrain. It's a mechanical, short, loud chirp that I cannot track down. This is a completely stock (I know) STI with 85,000km--lots of rust underneath.
Observations: - I can't replicate it on jack stands - I get the squeak when setting off, and when crossing 3krpm. It also squeaks when coming down, falling below 3krpm--almost like it is torque related - There is no clunk, lurch, NVH, or performance impact noticed - Can't feel it through the wheel - Can't hear it inside the car, only outside - Does not appear to be related to boost - It doesn't trigger on suspension compression - It's not end links or sway bar bushings--sounded like endlinks to me so I replaced them with no improvement - Changed all trans/diff fluids with no improvement WHAT is this thing? It's incredibly annoying. Anyone had this before and can end my suffering? In this video below I'm just stabbing throttle to go above then drop below 3krpm to get the squeak on / squeak off.

Can you try rolling the car down an incline, engine off and letting the clutch out like you're trying to push start it. Do it in both forward and reverse. See if you get the squeak.
If you get it that should at least isolate it to the bits that hold the drivetrain in the vehicle. I assume by "squeak" you mean like the "worn out poly leaf spring bushing" sound. |

Good idea. Did that, it only chirps when engaging the transmission. So it's something in the diff or driveshaft

Pitch stop would be great, quick fix. But it doesn't sound like it's coming from the front. Hard to pin down. But it definitely has that sound like a worn out bushing.

Confirmed it's not the pitch stop. Is it possible for a diff to make this noise as torque increases? I think that's what I've narrowed it down to (or mounts somewhere around it, maybe driveshaft as well)
