Me too. If you catch a glimpse in heavy traffic, you can't tell immediately if it's a turn signal or a brake light, delaying any reaction you might take.

Sounds like Honda's VTM-4 Lock. (Which is not yet on any Honda CVT I know of, though.)

Good article on carscoop with a few excerpts:

Mid-November release in JDM.

Quote:
The new Forester, which will go on sale in Japan in mid-November before it reaches both North American (as a 2014 model) and European shores as a 2013 model) next year

More cargo room:

Quote:
Subaru gives two numbers for the new Forester's luggage space, 505-liters and 488-liters, but we weren't able to translate the Japanese spec sheet to see to what they are referring to. For the record, the current model's cargo volume with the rear seats in place is 450-liters.

6spd/CVT with base engine and XT only with CVT:

Quote:
In its home market, the new Forester will be available at launch with two boxer engines, a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter unit delivering 146Hp (148ps) that can be linked to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT, and a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged powerplant rated at 276Hp (280PS) offered only with a CVT. A flagship STi model may be in the cards for the near future.

Also pics of rear legroom. Not sure how far back front seats are but much improved rear passanger room.

That should be it, because CVT have 'infinite' gears. So I don't see the point of having low range in auto mode.

They need to get a 6 spd in the XT or just get the diesel over here.

I think it looks really good, fits in well between the new Impreza and the Outback

I was talking about in terms of styling, but I guess the XV is more appropriate.

Infinite gears doesn't mean limitless. They're still only so low and so high.. and there are reports that people are having trouble towing and reversing on steep slopes with the CVTs because the torque load is too high at the lowest gearing, so the safety clutch (that prevents the CVT 'chain' from slipping) slips. The low range option should completely solve that issue.

And A W, low range isn't something you shift into because you hit something slippery.. you shift into it because you want to go extremely slowly over an obstacle. The increased torque at the wheels in low range is actually a detriment to traction in icy conditions.

I REALLY hope they have all the CVT BS worked out by USDM '14 models. Pretty much counting on putting a deposit on one here shortly.

What do you mean CVT BS? 2nd gen CVT is already in 2013 Outback/Legacy and that is what probably will be in 2014 Foresters too.

I want to make sure it is up to snuff for 260+ ft lbs of FI torque and fully ready for heavy duty off-road use. If you're telling me the 2nd is good to go, I'll keep quiet.

Doesn't the DIT Legacy use a CVT as well? Shouldn't have any problem with those numbers from the new Forester, then.

Note the blacked-out headlights on the silver XT... I bet we don't get those.

No signal mirrors or HID from what I can see there, which kinda surprises me for JDM.

I think we might. A Subaru rep told us that they are gonna make the XT look different than the regular Forester. I would think they'll do a little more than bumper and wheels this go around.

Yeah, it "fits" the images posted but until I see the blue Pleiades badge on that car, it's still unconfirmed.

I just wanted to add to the others confirming this, but they also had interior shots of the camo car. If that ain't a Forester Subaru needs to get after someone for stealing the Impreza interior!!

When was the last time Subaru said that the cars they sell is not up to snuff and still put it on the market? If you are particular about trouble free car, you might want to wait a year or two and then decide based on the customer reviews.

Unfortunately I ain't got time for that. I need to either buy the FXT my wife loves now that's on the lot at our dealer, or wait 7 months for the new one. I'd rather not buy the existing gas-guzzler on the cusp of a new one. Only problems I've ever had with 8 Subarus now have all been with the U.S.-built ones (Legacy platform of various years) - Never had a single issue with an Impreza/Forester platform out of Japan (other than ridiculous rotor warpage issues.) I have not heard a whole lot of feedback from the CVT Outback crowd on towing/off-road use, which is why I'm mentioning it. And I'm sure I'll be doing COBB APs and DPs etc. on this thing, so I'm hoping the CVT doesn't slip with that stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think there's been enough time in the field with any high-torque applications. Or have there?

I know exactly what to expect out of a 4MT '13 model.

Go buy the FXT if you need a huge body of evidence to demonstrate the 2014 Forester is not a dud. You won't get any information about how well built and how few issues the 2014 Foresters will have until 8 to 12 months after they release. Even if the Forester launches with the more powerful engine, will it really matter when <100 people buy them and report their transmission didn't blow up in the first 2,000 miles? And you certainly won't get any real feedback on how strong the CVT is in a tuned car until people start popping transmissions and reporting back how much power they were running before it failed.

Take a look at what happened with the 12 Impreza. Preople were happy with those for a bit, then there was some strong criticism about excessive oil consumption, condensation in the headlights, poor MPG, rattles, failing air bag sensors, and CVT behavior. Still a fantastic car, but I think the 13 models have hammered out a few issues that were present on the 12.

I have a 12 Impreza and aside from a few issues drivers side seat cloth fraying and a a pillar rattle which were both taken care under warranty it is a solid car. One thing is for sure it seems like some folks including myself are not getting the 27/36 MPG unless you drive it like grandma.

Which, on the flipside, everyone seems to be getting better than the advertised 22MPG city for the BRZ. Most of my friends are getting 24-25 on average up here in Alaska, and we only have 90 octane.

I think it's silly to wait for the following model year. It's either going to have what you want when you buy it or it won't. I just had a nice bout with Subaru regarding my 2011 WRX, and that basic design has been around since late 2007. No vehicle is perfect and that's what warranties are for. I would not mod a Forester XT with CVT right away. Let others do it, especially shops that have money to blow on projects like that. If you're already entering with the mindset of, "I'mma mod this thing," then you really can't worry about, "Will the new design be problem-free?" It just doesn't work that way. Either you're careful or careless.

There are plenty of people that haven't had issues with their 2012's. I had a loaner 2012 and I was getting 26-27MPG thrashing on it. It had just over 1k miles on the odometer. I could get 29MPG city when I treated it nicely. I had it for a week and loved it.

What are the chances this Forester will have 7 seats? It appears to be Tribeca-sized...

None. Unless you add them to the roof yourself.

Btw, the car is not Tribeca size.

Think Impreza. Could you fit 7 seats in an Impreza?
