Default 2011 Audi A8 Unveiled

Quote:
After the long wait, Audi has finally unveiled the new 2011 Audi A8 (we previously referred to it as a 2010 model). The new Audi A8 shows off the brand’s new Vorsprung durch Technik theme and features a new light aluminum body, powerful and highly efficient engines, Audi’s new MMI system, new driver assistance systems, full LED headlights and an elegant interior.

“The new Audi A8 is the sportiest sedan in its segment,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “It combines numerous functions in a new and intelligent way. And it’s unmatched in the stylistic elements and impression of the interior.”

The 2011 Audi A8 will debut with a new 4.2L FSI direct-injection V8 that produces 372-hp and a maximum torque of 328 lb-ft. Mated to an 8-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, the 2011 A8 will go from 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (electronically governed). Audi says that fuel-economy is improved by 15% when compared to the current A8.

The new 2011 Audi A8 will go on sale in the U.S. in late 2010, simultaneously with the LWB version, which will be announced to the public by mid 2010. Production will take place in Neckarsulm, Baden Wuertemberg, Germany.
Pricing details will be announced closer to the A8’s launch date.

Clean lookin car. I've always admired the clean lines and classy looks of Audi's. The only thing I don't like is the rear...It looks like it was just slapped on at the last minute. However, the interior is absolutely gorgeous. Good job Audi, and props to the lead designer!

Not feeling the headlights.... It works on the A4 but not here.... and the rear end looks more like entry level than flagship.... SORRY AUDI... Interior wise I could do without the "whatever" material they put in the dash....

Big, boring, and too many buttons in the interior for me.......and the headlights are different, but don't work imo. Average big lux sedan.........

The new 7 series and S class are really ugly, imho. I've been in a 2008 S600, and it is a very nice car with an amazing turning radius for something so large, but I just can't get over the external styling. If I was in the market for a car like this, the A8 would appeal to me stylistically and has the European "je ne s'ais pas", but I'd drive an Infiniti M45 and Lexus LS first.

Wood.

(Just razzin' you.)

I like it, can't wait for the S8. Though, it's funny, the headlights/front end remind me a bit of the new Dodge Charger.

I think its something I'd need to see in person, but it doesn't standout from the rest of the lineup. So far it just seems like a swelled up B9 (current generation) A4.

Nice lil HP bump in the V8, wonder if it will trickle around to the R8, A6, and S5.

I love the A8 line, can't wait to see these in person. They are the one 'big' car that I like.

Same here. Far prettier than any of their direct competition, if you ask me.

An S8 would be a fantastic road trip car! Though, actually, I'd probably go for an S6 Avant. More room, and all.

Still... every time I see an A/S8, I smile - they are beautiful, imposing cars, without being obnoxious or self-righteous.

I don't know, I generally like understated, classical looking cars, but for their flagship I wonder if they needed a little more flair, a little more distinction from their smaller models. As is, it looks too much like a bigger version of the A4/A6. Interior is the usual Audi nice though.

^^Agreed; looks a little too much like an A6 for my taste. MB E and S class are the same way though.

Yes, IIRC its the only mass-production car with an aluminum unibody.

Quote:
The aluminum spaceframe of the current model will carry over, saving engineers more than 330 pounds compared with a conventional steel body. The car's final curb weight is expected to range from between 3,630 pounds and 4,180 pounds depending on the model specification.

Nah, I think it's distinctive enough. I've always thought that the A6 and A8 were nicely distinguished, side-by-side.
