Cool thread.
Not sure they are all rednecks. Rednecks and neckbeards keep 'em running and at least know they are patching up junk. Worse are people with zero mechanical knowledge combined with ignoring little problems until they become large problems and they keep driving anyway! |

You realize that there are people who have lost everything and everyone who have a better outlook on life than that. Mechanics wouldn't have jobs if people didn't break cars, but God, does life suck. Lets go crush some newbies and put down the clearly inferior, from our lofty and superior vantage point of dissolution and negativity. Change your mind, and watch the the rest of the world change around you. |

I have a 1995 Legacy and am pretty good with cars. Nothing has prevented corrosion on the battery terminals of my car, and the red plastic cover hides the corrosion until it's at the disgusting point. Eventually, the factory (positive) terminal was completely eaten through and needed to be replaced. It's not expensive or hard, but I wonder what metal/alloy Subaru used in the factory terminal that allowed such corrosion.
On another front, I helped my friend replace the clutch in his 2005 Baja. Good thing, too... the original clutch (115k miles) had worn down to the rivets and made grooves in the flywheel. He sanded the flywheel some to resurface it, but there's no way to sand out the grooves. He re-used the old flywheel, grooves and all. He also didn't replace the nylon shift linkage bushings, despite having the transmission out of the car and the bushings costing only a couple of bucks. Well, I warned him. Sorry that I don't have any photos, though. Anyway, this is a fantastically entertaining thread. I'm glad that I do almost all my own work. Bob Kovacs www.bobkovacs.com |

Sidenote, just cleaned the battery terminals on my 2012 WRX today, and they were also extremely corroded. Never seen this much corrosion on any other car I've owned... Dealer just cleaned them a few months ago too when I took it in for warranty work. -Jango Edwards |

I spent 20 minutes of my life (that I will never get back) trying to explain to this woman that she needs to take the part she brought into us in an Autozone bag with an Autozone brand box for the part that she bought at........Autozone back to AUTOZONE if it is not the correct part.
I believe we covered every possible variation of why I can not take the part back, can not give her exchange credit towards the purchase of the Nissan part, or refund her money on the part she has in her hand. It was a baffling twilight zone like experience. ME: "So you bought this part at autozone." HER: "Yes." ME: "And you want me to refund your money to you for the part?" HER: "Yes." |
