+12V Accessory is the one that's switched on/off with the ignition key. See my pin-out table.

if i install aftermarket unit with steering key wire, i just match the wire pin to the pin# of the harness? the unit has steering control settings for volume, track, and bluetooth answer key.

For the speakers and power connections, yes. Use an aftermarket radio harness so you don't have to cut your factory wires. Then most of the colors will match your HU's harness.
Which HU model? Almost all require a steering wheel interface module (Axxess ASWC or one of the SWI-* models from PAC Audio). |

The second one (from "Liberty-Forever") should connect directly to your car's 20-pin radio harness. Since it is intended for newer Subarus, it should recognize your car's steering wheel buttons without requiring any programming. Check with the vendor about both issues to be certain. |

The on/off-hook and talk buttons are so new, that the Liberty-Forever HU may not support the car's 3rd SWC wire. If the Xtrons HU can be be connected to a car that uses 3 wires for the SWCs (with one of those wires being connected to ground), then it should be able to "learn" all of the buttons, including the new phone buttons. But you will need to ask both vendors to verify. |

Has anyone been able to locate where the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and Reverse wires are for 2008 non-navi Imprezas? I did a Navi transplant in my non-navi WRX and the GPS frequently loses single (lags) for a few seconds. The VSS wire is meant to fix this, but since it's not on the factory harness, I don't even know where the wire is!
There are several people who asked the same question in this thread, but no answers! |

VSS should be able to found at pin 31 at the instrument cluster. I need to pull the cluster to verify this.
Reverse can be found in the passenger kick panel. It is a brown/yellow lead that heads towards the rear of the vehicle (for obvious reasons). |

Thanks for the excellent diagrams. I'll be working on installing a Parrot Unika box for my 2010 OBS (with the Parrot MKi9000 hands free system). The Unika instructions state that one of the wires must be plugged into the ignition power (clearly documented here as the +12V Accessory pin). Any tips on this install? Do I just... cut the quick connect Parrot harness wire at that pin and splice in the 12V Acc wire right there?
(Also, can anyone confirm if the steering wheel controls are indeed based on a resistive system and not the CAN or K bus?) Thanks! |

It sounds like a local car stereo retailer has scotch locks available (example: http://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-...5.html?feed=pn), so I'll try to stop by there and pick up a few. Is there any reason why this would not be a good idea with the 12V Acc power wire?
Thanks! |

Thanks for your replies. According to Parrot's guide here, I need to connect the power of the Unika box to the accessory power (pin 3) and it seems that I also need to make a connection to ground and possibly the steering wheel signal wire, which appears to be pin 4 on the diagram. The Unika instructions get somewhat confusing, though - on one page it says that 12V Accessory power is needed, and on another page it says that Unika's V1 wire must be connected to the steering wheel signal and V2 must be grounded (from an EE background - I can't figure out why on earth they would name a signal pin with the letter V, but I didn't make this thing). Can anyone clarify some of this?
Wait a second... now that I took another look at the plug diagram, I noticed that there is a steering wheel + wire at pin 4, and a steering wheel - common wire at pin 14. This makes it sound like Unika's V1 should tap into pin 4 and V2 should tap into 14. As I mentioned above, another confusing part of the instructions is that 12V ignition power "is not provided" and must be somehow plugged into the Unika. Unfortunately, their wiring diagram doesn't give much of an indication of where it should be connected. The quick connect harness appears to provide 12V ignition power to the Parrot box, so I don't understand why this would not be provided to the Unika if it taps into the same set of wiring (the main Parrot plug is removed from the Parrot unit, plugged into the Unika harness, and this harness routes the signals to wherever they need to go, whether to the Unika or MKi boxes). Thanks again - once I gather some courage (and a soldering iron, ideally, but electrical tape could be a start), I'll give this install a try over the weekend. Many thanks for the advice on the scotch locks. Thank you for the offer littlewhitewagon - the Unika box is supposed to detect the buttons on its own. |

Yup, the VSS wire should be pink/green. It is easy to pull out the cluster and tap in there, a short run to the radio.

Back when I originally had my F900BT installed in my 09 STI non-NAVI, the installers ended up splicing all the wires and 2 years later I'd like to get in there and redo it, esp since I believe the steering wheel control adapter is borked (radio starts to have a mind of its own sometimes). If I understand this correctly, the adapter you have for sale (http://ae64.com/20-pinfwdharness.htm) will connect to the factory adapter and to the Pioneer adapter that came with the HU and fix all my worries?

It should, provided that your installers didn't bork your factory SWC wires when they spliced into them.

Edit: I honestly tried searching the stickies, and a regular search wouldn't have been helpful, but what are the "CAN" wires used for? Do I need the interface with them or without? This is the work I had done when the HU was installed: Door speakers replaced with Memphis Audio M-class speakers (wired through the hu) Memphis Audio amp installed (wired to the hu) Audio Integrations sub box w/ Memphis Audio M-class sub installed (wired through the amp) Rear backup camera wired through the hu So, do I need the CAN version or not? CAN (Controller Area Network) is a data bus that allows various devices in the car to communicate with each other over shared wires.
On Subaru's 2008 Impreza wiring diagrams, these wires from the radio harness are on a low-speed network with the Body Integrated Unit, A/C Control Panel, and the Combination Meter. You'll only need the CAN bus wires on the radio harness when you're keeping the factory HU. I'm not aware of any aftermarket radio that knows how to "talk" to the Subaru's CAN bus. So no, you don't need the CAN wires. |

I'm not even sure that the HU uses CAN for speed-sensitive volume control. Do any Impreza or Forester models have that? |

My stock head unit in my 09 premium wrx has an option to engage speed sensitive volume. It increases a few notches as you go faster. |
