when I was researching cars to buy I had it narrowed to a GTI and my WRX. I spoke to my uncle who has been a Mercedes mechanic for about 25 years.

me -"what do you think of a wrx?"
uncle - "don't buy that, it's a tinny piece of jap junk"

Was driving a couple friends back from dinner, pull up to a stop sign. There's a couple families with kids and one kid, had to be about 6 or 7 says "That car is awesome!" Mom repeats it back to him and he goes "Yea!" The dad just smiled at me. It made my day

Oh no, the gold brakes you see there that say "Brembo" on them aren't brembos.

I was about to yell at your for being mean to a guy who wants to learn more about Subarus, who's genuinely interested and now you've crapped on him...

But no... he's a parts guy at a SUBARU dealership?! That's sort of embarrassing.

I had the same train of thought. Bottom line is people who work at a dealership should know, at the very least, basic information about the cars they sell.

I guess most of the Wrx's and STI's are probably already sold before they get em to their showroom nowadays

You guys do realize that they are parts guys? Not techs, not salesmen. 90% of them dont even give a **** about the cars for which the parts they sell.

So they're selling parts to cars they dont know two ****s about, and you find that acceptable why? Some parts are easiest and most convenient to get at a dealership, have no part number, and spending half an hour trying to describe the $4 part you want to a salesman who cant tell an Impreza from a Tribeca is an experience that'll likely turn you away from going to that dealership ever again.

If you sell cars, know about the cars. If you sell parts, know about the parts--that means you have to know about the cars too. Simply knowing how to use the computer to look up part numbers is not good enough.

Agreed. At the dealership I bought my car from the guy at the parts counter changed the lightbulb (noticed the windshield washer fluid was low and filled it), programed my key fob, got under the car to check out the axle boot I broke. All this being at some used car dealership. Sure, the dude drives a WRX but it was nice to see how much cared about his job and customers.

Spending the usual early Saturday morning polishing my 08 wrx.. I noticed two Spanish kids out of the corner of my eye, as they approached my car they continued to stare, one of the two finally stated "nice car man." I smiled. They then asked "does your car Have nos?" I laughed and said "maybe"

I've actually had that same question asked multiple times now. (mainly by Spanish folks lol)

Had alot of people tell me that my car is fast. I chuckle and quickly educate them on how there are different induction platforms and the effect on performance. Then they nod their head and say "nah man Subaru's are still f****n fast". Then I just smile really big at the thought of them thinking my car is crazy fast

i had an elderly japanese couple, maybe like 70 years old, walking by as i was getting out of my car and staring at my car profusely. they were exchanging words amongst themselves in japanese and as i was walking away, the elderly man asked me in a heavy accent and broken english:

"what kind of car?" he said pointing.
i answered, "subaru."
they looked at each other dumbfounded.
i repeated again with a more japanese pronounciation, "tsu-Bah-ru"
"aaah!" they said clapping their hands and nodding, "tsu-Bah-ru! look nice!"
i said thanks, we all smiled, and then i left.

cool elderly people.

That's funny as hell that they "got it" after you accentuated the "Su", especially since the Japanese "***12473;***12496;***12523;" does not have the accentuated "tsu". Nor is there any emphasis on any syllable. If ANY emphasis is there, it would be on the "su".

I love it when people correct me on that when I say "Subaru", and they go, "NAH man, it's pronounced 'Su-BAAAA-Ru'. I'm 1/4 Japanese and speak it proficiently. (and 100% Asian - 1/4 Chinese, 1/2 Thai, so it's not like I look white and would pronounce it wrong)

Although I guess in the US people pronounce it a little closer to "Soo-ba-roo".
