That's one reason why I want to stay Stage 1 for a while. It's so easy to go back to stock if I needed to.

Good luck!

lol yeah thanks. I'm going to try some fuel injector cleaner first. I drove like 30 miles and the code hasn't come back. power seems fine, it just seems to misfire at idle and sometimes when cruising between 2 and 3k. Also the criuse control light was flashing if that matter

that's interesting. let us know what you find.

just FYI im at stage 2 since 30k miles, now im at 56k miles, no strange issues as of yet (knock on wood) and im almost due for my 60k spark plug change.

i'm hoping that my tuner wont introduce any strange issues when they work on my car for the 60k maintenance items.

Thanks for adding to the conversation.

You try switching to the cobb OTS tune? Couldn't hurt if you have the AP.

Lol its just pretty widely known that wrxs are underrated or stis are overrated.

I am open source tuned so there isn't really any other map I can go to without swapping some parts. If the codes return I will send some logs to Eric at torqued performance, but I doubt they will show anything.

I am on the forums often and haven't seen much regarding proof of either really, although I haven't actually searched for the answer.

Hope you get it figured out, curious if it has something to do with the maf, not sure if you can datalog or not with opensource but you might be able to get an idea by the maf voltage reading. Oil/clean your cobb intake lately, maybe oil on the maf? Please post if you figure it out.

There is a lot of proof of it around. In car magazines too.

Of course you can catalog with open source. I'm thinking maybe its from excessive oil blow by, maybe I'll clean out the throttle body. There was quite a bit in there when my ic pipe blew off. The filter has never been reoiled so I doubt its that. I think it happened with the stock intake also...although that was after I switched back from Cobb because it was annoying me. I did clean the maf once because Eric said I should when the issue first started but it still came back. Its just never thrown a code so I was trying to ignore it lol.

Lol, another wrx owner on the wrx under-rated soap box. Get over your purchase...and drive on.

So what's the final explanation for the misfire codes?

Lol what underrated soap box? They put down the same power on dynos + or - 10 whp and they are rated 40crank HP apart. The wrx puts up faster straight line acceleration numbers and owners who have gone from an 09+ wrx to an sti say they feel slower stock at low speeds until the gearing gives the st ok the top end advantage.

I don't know what caused the codes yet. I'm going to wait to see if they come back.

If it's blow by I would get a catch can soon. I would think the plugs would show some signs of that? Heard bad things about the cusco catch can and also about air/oil separators in general. Good luck, hope it's not too bad.

Yeah I should...or maybe I'll get a brz and leave it stock..lol

I feel like blow by wouldn't cause all 4 cylinders to throw codes at once.

On the plus side the vacuum reading on my boost gauge hasn't changed, there is no smoke puffing out of my oil filler( I read that is a sign of bad ringlands) and it hasn't been consuming much oil so I don't think the engine is blowing up just yet lol.

Whenever I log into NASIOC the first thing in my CP is Celergy GT-5 with a comment about WRX superiority. Whats the matter little dick syndrome? Drive your car and leave the subjective dialogue on the acurazine website you always refer too.

So you didn't pull any codes from the ECU?

Didn't he say there was oil in TB? I think that's relatively conclusive of blow by isn't it? you can make DIY catch-cans to do this.

There is always blow by. I was referring to excessive blow by, thought that was obvious, which would warrant using a catch can. I remember reading about someone using a company that makes them to whatever spec you want and for cheap. Imo catch cans are overpriced, there really isn't much to them. An EVO that goes to our weekly meet has a yellow rockstar can as his catch can, it's actually well executed and looks pretty cool.

Ok, I know that there is some because of the design (blow-by), my car is almost 3 years old and the bottom of the TB is diry but doesn't look like oil. the inside of the couple is the same way (its greasy/oily to touch but not physical oil deposits).

I didn't think there is a ton of design in these things other than using baffles instead of the old steel wool designs.

Its not superior, its faster in a straight line when its stock if you don't go past 120mph, how does that make it superior? Its obviously not superior..lol. I talk down about WRX's constantly lol, I don't see how I get singled out as someone who has a WRX superiority complex or something. I just tell the truth and the ostriches on both side of the fence don't like the truth.

As far as codes go it threw P3001, P3002, P3003 and P3004, misfire on all cylinders. I cleared it and I'm going to run through another tank of gas, pour in some techron and see if it gets any better or if the codes come back.

The only reason I think it may be gas is because I had stopped using this kwikfill station near my house because it seemed to make the idle issue worse so I had been using sunoco, which doesn't fix the issue but it doesn't seem as bad. So my previous tank was kwikfill, then I went back to sunoco for this tank and thats when it finally threw a code after a little bit of missing between the 2000 and 3000 rpm range while driving. The next time I started the car after that the idle was pretty shaky and the code came up a few mins later.

I cleared the code and drove it about 30 miles around the back roads the next day. It seems to perform fine except when its idling or cruising between 2 and 3k. Power seems fine too.

I might pop off the TMIC and clean out the TB too. I think this amount of blow by is pretty common giving the number of people who have had their TMIC to TB hose pop off which sure seems to happen because it gets too oily in there, there isn't like a pool of oil, its just a bit greasy. Maybe more gets by because its ****ty royal puprle 5w30 lol idk.

Maybe it is just the gas then. I'll take some pics of my TMIC tomorrow.

Yeah my friend had his TB hose pop off and it had oil in the house as well, this is a 13 hatch with 4k on it too. Very well could be gas. I had fine knock learning show up on one of my datalogs using Costco gas. Cobb recommended using in this order chevron, shell and then 76 if one of the other two aren't available. Switching to chevron seemed to take care of it. Our gas sucks

What other signs are there if you have bad tank of gas? My car backfired for the first time this afternoon when I shifted.

Backfires are not really a sign of bad fuel, it's unburned fuel igniting outside of the combustion chamber. If you are tuned at all you are most likely running very slightly rich as it is safer for the car. Our cars run rich slightly between shifts as well which cause backfires. If you run a true bov then you are even more likely to backfire.

Bad fuel causes misfires and knocking/pinging. Kind of weird that it is only happening at certain RPMs for Celery.

my height? I'm 6' 4"

There is just a ton of info that suggests the 09-13 wrx is a little bit faster than the 08+ STI stock for stock. People's dynos, cobb's dynos, multiple magazine times, youtube videos, driver butt dynos, time slips etc.

I've also argued that buying a WRX with the intention to mod it heavily is a terrible idea because the STI already comes with so many parts that you will need to/want to change on the WRX but people with "STI" under their names never care when I say that, but people with WRX's get furious.

The problem seems to be worse when the car sits for a few days too.

I love how we are having a simultaneous flame war and mechanical troubleshooting conversation here..lol
