This is the Stock "VF30 TMI INJEN VF30 AGRESSIVE STRT 18PSI" map in a readable format. Note, I haven't played nor tweaked this one yet, just posting it because...

This is what the Stock "VF30STG4TMI" map looked like after 19 DynaPak runs and a lot of tweaking. I'll also post the "MAP" version you can cut and paste into a text file to upload next, please do be careful as I take NO responsability for damage caused!!! This isn't my final tune by far, just better than how it came for me on Chevron 93 Pump gas in Atlanta...
Fueling was COMPLETELY changed as it came pig rich, timing was flatend(sp?) a little in a couple of spots as well. Boost was left alone. I'm hitting 20PSI with this map... Code:

Here is my "Modified VF30STG4TMI After Dyno Runs" MAP file. I chose to name the extension "MAP" instead of TXT as I can keep it apart easier. Simply cut and paste everything between the "code" words and paste it into a file and save it, then upload per the UTEC instructions should you decide to do so. Be VERY aware gas, weather, the moon, and tides effect all parts of the country differently and what make work for me may blow you up!

Yup, 93 Chevron Pump. I will use Toulene on a drag strip or C16 just to be on the safe side...

LOL - i am on 91 octane... and will run really lean with the FMIC. but i'll keep it for reference.
I am glad things are working out for you with the UTEC. |

Now, the Dyno scans will be posted by tonight (Friday night).
In short, walking in and doing the first run I was at 220hp to the wheels as the UTEC came. After all was said and done I am at 260hp to the wheels:-). Now, I think there more room to grow but I was happy today getting this out of it. I say that because 19 runs is a lot, and I would say 15 of them was figuring out how the constants worked and block multiplying or filling. My A/F was ALL over the place on the first run. Now it is flatlined and perfect the whole way accross the board. The boost has room to grow and I believe the timing does as well. My initial goal is 300hp to the wheels as she stands, maybe with a couple of home brew mods like light TB porting, ditching the intake coolant recirc, and other such stuff. I have questions to add to this but I'm too tired tonight to keep going. One thing that I didn't figure out at first (I'm new at this) is that under the fueling map setup that the %'s are NOT throttle position, they are load. Thats what the first 9-10 runs didn't even open up until after like 4500RPM's. DUH, so I went back and remapped from 10% to 100% to cover the whole range with the same constants. Once I got used to it I really liked the UTEC interface. It took some time, and I'm glad I was able to do it on a DynaPak with a Wideband sensor and all the goodies. The next set of runs I believe will be a breeze as the learning curve is done for what I considered the hard part. Oh, one more thing. I had to adjust my TPS reading in the UTEC under "Parameters". Mine would read 95 at WOT, which makes a difference. I set the voltages and you'll notice in the first set of UTEC logs the TPS never goes over like 95, after that change it went right to 100, sometimes 101. Any comments or suggestions are welcome as always. I could use the help, and I'm trying my best to spread the knowledge. More to come tomarrow, including the Dyno Plots. Shawn |

so much good stuff shawn, thanks for taking the time man. 40whp increase from tuning is good, just think what all the poor off the shelf unichip folks could be getting from alittle tweaking.
Im so close to getting a UTEC |

Bumping for a couple of questions.
At what point should I start messing with the knock threshold setting. At some point you can only tune around problem points in the range, after that you still get slight, VERY slight CEL flashes that are too quick for any logging to pick up. I'm at the point now where I would like the CEL to flash only during a major knock event that needs to be tuned around. Next question. I need an example as to how to set the ambient air or intake air threshold to add or subtract X amount of gas or timing based on air temp. At night it's cool here, during the day it's hot. I know where to set this information, just not how the constants work. An example would be much appreciated! Thanks, Shawn |

I'm at 96C for coolant and 54C for air
with .4 for fuel enrichment and 2 for timing retard. So far it's worked good. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com |

Don't thank me, I'm just sharing what I'm learning. Heck, Jorge has been contributing for ALOT longer than me and has helped out tremendously with both his web site and posts.

Nice numbers... glad to see the huge stack of data flowing in. Just so you know Shawn, I fixed the forum on the ECU Tuning site.. so you can use the CODE tags now to organize it there.

Sounds good Crazyhorse, I'll dual post for now here and there and maybe just switch over to there to reduce load on this site.
Any chance I can attach JPG's:-). Shawn |

Nice to see the map posted, it will probably be the same setup I'll have minus the catless exhaust (1 cat) and a few other things on my car (headers). The one thing I had a question about was the spool time of the turbo. How fast do you generally hit 14psi with it driving on the street?

I've already shared this with Shawn in an email, but it's pretty cool to see the knock correction of the UTEC in action on the last dyno plot.
There are two areas where the UTEC retarded timing in that dyno plot that changed the curves quite a bit. The first is just after boost comes on and torque starts to dip. The second is in the high RPM where the HP curve looks like someone just took a bite out of it. I am glad the UTEC caught both instances of det, and by looking at the size of the bite in the curves they would have been rather major. These two spots also give a little insight into how you have to tune an EJ20. On pump gas and 93 octane we tune our stage 4 kits to around 10.7:1 AF ratio in the upper RPM sections of the map. You can go leaner before boost builds, but as the boost comes on it must be richened up to avoid detonation in the “would be peak torque" zone. If i have time I’ll post an Air: fuel chart today that will give a better idea of how we like to run a street tune. -Nathan www.turboxs.com |

What are some general adjustments that need to be made to a high altitude(5000 feet ) tune on the UTEC??
