Default Porsche Panamera to receive V6 engine! Hybrid version also in the works!

Quote:
A horde of reports swamped auto enthusiasts last week with the latest Porsche Panamera since its spectacular introduction on the 94th story skyscraper in Shanghai. At this present time, the four-door Panamera will only come in different V8 trims, but more economical powerplants, including a hybrid model, are due to be available soon.

Porsche has an existing Cayenne SUV prototype that is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 hybrid powerplant from Audi, and it would not be unusual if this unit will be found also powering the Panamera. Although Porsche purists may not like the idea, but the new Panamera will also be getting a regular V6 unit, which implies that the famous Porsche flat-six won’t probably be appearing in the new four-seater.

The head of Research and Development for Porsche explained that the front of the Panamera cannot accommodate the flat-six unit because of the shape of it engine bay, as well as the suspension proving to be an obstacle. With a V6 version will surely cut down the cost of the cheapest Porsche Panamera, which is currently the Panamera S, which comes with a price tag less than $90,000.

With a gasoline V6 becoming the entry-level model, equipped with standard suspension instead of the air suspension system of Porsche, it is expected that the Panamera will lose a large chunk of that price tag.No date for the arrival of the two models has been set, but they will be released at the end of 2009. An all electric Porsche 911 is available to make the wait worthwhile, but this model can only seat two.

Uhh, I thought everyone already knew that these cars would never get the Flat 6 and that they would be set up just like the Cayenne.

The same place it was before when the Cayenne came out and made Porsche a lot of money.

If a flat 6 fits in an Impreza, why doesn't it fit in this?

Just a guess off of the top of my head, but I am going to go with different suspension designs.

Probably the 3.2 FSI from the A4/A5, that engine uses direct injection. The A3 uses the VR6.
