Default CEL Nightmare P0457

So I have been having a P0457 CEL problem. I've checked the rubber lines on the solenoid, replaced the purge valve near the gas tank and check all the connections. Everything seems good, however I am still getting the code. I have NOT replaced the solenoid, only cleaned it. What else should I look for, because bringing it into the shop?

Thanks in advance.

That code is for a gross leak in the evap system. there is a solenoid bolted to the front of the intake behind the pw steering pump, I have found the lines off and the solenoids broken. Check that. If thats not it you need to smoke test the tank.

Smoke test is probably next and then replacing the actual Solenoid. Thanks!

It's ok to drive, it might idle weird though. So my problem was a bad "Check Valve".

Everything was connected and working correctly except for that thing. Apparently it wasn't sucking vacuum or something along the lines of that. Replaced it and now its better. So just for the record I would like to list the things that a P0457 CEL could relate to and things you should check if you get this code ever.

1. Gas Cap
2. Evap Solenoid Hoses (Sometimes they get loose and disconnect)
3. Purge Valve under the Charcoal Canister (Under the gas tank)
4. Check Valve

I had this happen to my a few months ago and it took replacing the solenoid for me atleast. I've never heard of it ACTUALLY being the gas cap as the problem even though that's part of the code description because it's also happened to a couple other buddies with subies.

i actually had a similar issue on my RSX with the p0457. i dunno if this will help, but i'll throw in my $0.02. i kept getting a "Check Fuel Cap" message on my dashboard, but after replacing the gas cap nothing changed. so i took it to a mechanic and he smoke tested it and it checked out fine. he told me i needed to change my vent pressure sensor, purge control valve, and canister vent valve. so i ordered the parts and replaced them myself. if i remember correctly, the vent pressure sensor is located on the throttle body, and the other two parts are located on the EVAP canister under the gas tank. it got rid of my p0457 for good.

i dunno if it's the same for subaru's or not, but i figure some info is better than no info.

Make sure you have power and ground at all connections for evap system. Also underneath rear seat make sure no mouse damage. Seen short to ground because of mouse damage throwing P0457.

Have you removed the fuel pump assembly? I got this code due to the rubber gasket that sits beneath the top of the assembly, the oval one that the 8 studs pass through. Once I replaced it, it went away.

Good to know! How much was this check valve? Also, did you troubleshoot this check valve or just replace it? Curious on how you may have troubleshot it.

Thanks!
