Hmmmm, for $8k + shipping I might be willing to learn to drive on the wrong side of the car.

Just cut the front clip off your car, weld on the donor front clip, and be the first owner of an H6-powered Impregacy. Or maybe it would be a Legreza?

Okay, I'm done trying to find someone in the area that can help me so I'm going to post this here for anyone that can use it:

2005 Legacy Outback Prts 3.0L V6 Leather seats For Parts 40k miles - $100 (Lockport)

2005 Legacy Outback Prts 3.0L V6 Leather seats For Parts 40k miles CALL FOR ANY PART 716-830-60-91
He only wants $600 for the engine with only 40,000 miles

It's a crazy good price, but as soon as he found out I wasn't local he basically told me to **** off. If anyone's in the area, you can get a great deal on a low mileage EZ30R. Wish I could snap it up, but I can't find anyone to help me out.

What are your plans for the motor? Are you going to tear it down and rebuild it, or just run it as-is and rebuild later if it dies?

run it as is. i chucked the injector covers off (i was AMAZED at how heavy they were. 5lbs between them no problem i reckon), removed the AC (also remarkably heavy), working out things like bypassing the coolant so it doesn't go through the throttle body, seal off the ATF fluid lines or remove them, figuring out the fuel lines to run a parallel setup, change the plugs, install some phenolic spacers, work out a new intake, work out how to run & tension the belt without the AC, see if a lightweight crank pulley exists for these engines, pop the valve covers off and install new seals (and indeed all the new seals i can) etc etc. basically make it as mean as possible without actually tearing it down. might convert to E85 with some bigger injectors too. still on the fence about whether i'll do that or not.

it only has 83,000km (51,000 miles) on it!

are your OBX headers any larger diameter than the stocko's? or are they just ones that will join up to the impreza midpipe?

ok those of you who want a lightweight crank pulley, get on over to the legacy forums at this link http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...204179p12.html and get in on the group buy/development.

Yeah, I was surprised at that, too. I think it's closer to 10#.

I'm not sure what size the stock piping is, as I've never had my hands on a stock setup. Did your front clip come with the exhaust manifolds? If so, we can compare measurements.

As for mating up to the rest of the exhaust, I full expect that to be a cut-and-paste affair.

ok pat got the internal diameter measurements:

the ports on the headers are 73mmx40mm (OBX so far as i can tell is the same)

the primaries are 41mm (vs 48mm for OBX)

and the piece that connects to the midpipe after the cat is 50mm, or probably 2 inch like OBX (OBX is 50.8mm)

so yeah, obx headers aren't really going to give ANY performance gains unless we slice off the Y merge and make it 2.5 inch, like you've done. the OEM piece in all its cast iron glory is a pretty heavy hunk of metal however.

Glad to see this thread is still going strong and lots of sweet ez30ds going into some cool things. I'm coming up on five years and over 30k miles since the swap on my old Xt. It started mt5 fwd, but this year I swapped it over to the 04-05 sti six speed. About 3k miles since the awd swap and everything is still running great!

Anyway, great thread, I always learn something new and cool here.

I take it you were the one that bought this, then.

They had it listed as an 00-02 EZ30, and I specifically asked them if it was the single, oval exhaust port heads or if it had individual exhaust ports for each cylinder. They said it was single, oval ports. I was like "WTF?" because that tranny code matches up to a JDM MY05 Legacy Spec B, so I asked for pictures of the exhaust ports. They told me to call them so they could get an email address to send the pictures to, then when I called them up they said it had just sold. And THEN, the guy told me the ebay price was a mistake and offered to sell it to me if I wired them $3600 even though it was already sold. He said he could do that because he hadn't processed the buyer's credit card yet. I told him that was a super sketchy offer, and I wasn't going to undercut another buyer.

Looks like you got a good buy (assuming you got the engine/tranny combo for $3000), but they totally tried to screw you. I would leave them bad feedback.

Yes I got that, but not for that price of $3000(paid more). Basically you and I asking about the ports made them realize they priced it too low which was annoying because they already agreed to sell it to me. He said it was individual ports(which I assume it has to be since it has the AVCS?) I'll be pissed if they are not the tri-port exhaust since he said they were he said "3 ports per head".

I agree it is sketchy, they asked me to wire money as well to avoid merchant fees, I said "no". It's on my credit card in case there is an issue. I can't imagine it is not a EZ30R because it is a 3.0R transmission so the engine has to be a 30R unless it was some weird JDM transition year. I'll keep you posted... should ship out today and I hope I'll get it with no issues end of this week or early next.

EDIT: just called and confirmed it does have the 3 individual ports on each side like we assumed.

The car it is going into is not currently made. I'll likely run it with a ViPec is my plan at this point unless another option comes out in the mean time. If the stock ECU's were unlocked or available to use with a Cobb AP i'd definitely go that way. It will be a forced induction application.

This is just the first step in a very long time line, once I have more accomplished I'll start a thread on the plans.

Step 1 is get it and make sure it's in the condition the company said it was lol.

I should've mentioned that I clarified that it was indeed three exhaust ports per head when I called yesterday. I think he was confused about the difference between "oval" and "round," and "single" versus "individual."

It's funny, he seemed surprised when I informed him that the same engine came in all the 06-07 Tribeca and 05-09 Legacy 3.0R/LL Bean models in the US. He seemed to think he'd discovered that the engine was super special when I talked to him on the phone (probably inciting the price bump/"mistake"), but the only thing really special about the listing was the tranny; there are several EZ30Rs on ebay for $1800 right now.

What I was really interested in was getting ECU from that car as it's the rarest of rare EZ30/6MT combo, but alas they didn't have it. They told me I could just pick one up on ebay. Yeah. Uhuh. I've been looking.

Words cannot describe the awesome!!!!

I've wanted to see an EZ30/6MT for the longest time; already saving up for a 6MT/R180 for my '04 Outback!!

Quick question though: What exact model is this engine/trans. combo from??? I wasn't aware that Subaru ever paired an EZ30D/R to a 6MT prior to the fourth gen. 3.0 Spec B

Keep us updated!!

The transmission code for PHAT's purchase was TY856WVBAA, and according to RalliSpec's Subaru Transmission ID Chart, that transmission came from a JDM MY05 Legacy Spec B. Opposedforces.com also shows that to be the first 6MT paired with an EZ30, with a production run of March, 2004 through April, 2005.

The 6MTs paired with the EZ30 were (according to opposedforces.com):
TY856WVBAA '04, March - '05, April

TY856WVCAA '05, April - '05, June

TY856WVCAA '05, March - '06, June

TY856WVCAA '06, April - '06, December

TY856WPDAD '06, December - '07, June

TY856WPEBB '07, April -
As far as I can tell, the EZ30/6MT combination only made it to Japan and some European countries (they did make some LHD). I've been trying to source an ECU for awhile now with no luck so far.

EDIT: Going off the destination codes from the ECU part numbers, the EZ30/6MT combo was sold in the following markets outside of Japan:
EK - Europe (RHD)
ER - Europe(?) (RHD)
KA - Australia (RHD)
EC - Europe (LHD)
E2 - Israel (LHD)
K4 - Panama (LHD)
Destination code definitions came from this thread: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...n-codes-99129/

That's where I'm headed, I'm just taking my sweet time getting there (as is usually the case with my projects, unfortunately ). I installed an '06 STI 6MT a few years ago after the stock 5MT tore up 2nd gear. I had put an Outback 5th gear into the 5MT, which meant the engine was spinning ~4000rpm @ 80mph. I figured those RPMs on the highway would be stupid with a larger, torquier 6-cyl, so I already had the 6MT waiting in the wings to go in with the H6.

I'm hoping to have the EZ30D in the car in the coming couple/few months, but we'll see...
