Default Just got back from the B9 Tribeca event at the LA Auto Show...

Just got back from the B9 Tribeca event at the LA Auto Show. My wife and I got to meet and greet many Subaru officials, and even ran into a few old friends to boot. I even found out one of the Regional managers knows VERY WELL who I am and even referred to me as "HB Dad" (which is also my vanity license plate which is how he made the connection).

First off, the vehicle is BEAUTIFUL and pictures don't do it justice. It also seems to have darfed the '05 Outback which was right next to it. The styling is sexy as hell. The grille looks fantastic. The curves are nice. The crease (spelling?) on the rear seen in pictures isn't nearly as sharp as it appears in the pics. As for the interior, it is GORGEOUS! Most importantly, it is very confortable and roomy. I am a large guy and am 6' 5". Even though they weren't allowing people to get into the vehicle, they allowed me to give it a shot (my wife snapped pics of the event). I had to lower the seat all the way, but I definetely was far more comfortable than I am in my Outback. Legroom is better too, as the leg area is much wider than my Outback. The second and third rows both seemed to be able to fit adults even my size with no problem (although the third is a little bit tight unless the second row is moved forward a bit).

Anyway, onto the new information. Well, unfortunetely, someone nuked my thread calling for YOUR questions to be asked, so I asked those which I could remember off hand (many were asked by others in the QA session). This is in no particular order:

1. Rear camera is in developemnt and awaiting signoff. Won't be in first year's model.

2. OnStar contract is expired as of the '04 models with no renewal pending. Its history folks.

3. McIntosh contract also expired. New stereo is a Kenwood.

4. Ipods and other devices can hook up through the input jack on the DVD Entertainment system. Full Ipod port coming the following year.

5. Spare is underneath vehicle. Is full sized rim, but the tires are temporary space savers.

6. All seats fold flat and make a cool bed. There are supposedly 6 configurations possible with seating.

7. Price? There will be seven trim models and 7 colors. The 5 seater will come in one trim at $31,999. The base 7-seater comes in at $33,999. Fully loaded goes for $39,999.

8. Navigation system cannot be added at the dealership. Must come from factory pre-installed.

9. Highway gas mileage is estimated at 24MPG, but the official rating is not available yet.

10. Mud lights illuminate the ground when the doors are opened.

11. 0-60 not rated yet.

12. There is a mystery "port" of sorts on the rear passenger side bumper. I got three guesses by three different people, but noone was sure waht it is for. One rep says for rear-cam. One says for spare release. The last thinks its a diagnostic port. Who knows?

13. Interior floor lighting illuminates the second row passenger's feet (why?). Pretty neat looking, but I fail to understand its usefulness ("bling" element perhaps?).

14. The car will be manufactured in April and be delivered to dealerships in mid to late May.

Overall, I am beyond excited and WILL be trading in my '03 LL Bean Outback for the first Atlantic Blue Pearl one to come in to the dealership!!. This is THE Subaru to own if you want elegance and versatility over "hot roding".

PICS (and perhaps grammar and spelling check) COMING SOON!

While we're on this "bling" thing, do you happen to know:

(1) Does it have memory seat
(2) Does it have speed sensitive wiper (slows down when you slow down or stop)
(3) Does the rear view side mirrors automatic tilt down when in reverse

Glad to hear that you liked it more in person than in photos. I look forward to checking them out later this Spring.

Thanks for the info.... You're giving me some hope as I'm also ~6'5", so there's a possibility that I will be just as happy as my wife

Kenwood huh? I like the sounds of that (no pun intended)

Taken together, these two points indicate the single 5-seater trim level won't have the navigation system. That sux.

Kenwood is a Sirius shop right? Does that mean factory XM is an even more distant possibility?

Don't jump the gun yet... they did say it's an option. We just need to see if it's an available option for the 5 seater trim. Probably unless you get leather, just like any other brand.

The math doesn't seem to add up. The only options I see available for the 7 seater are Nav, RSE, and a towing package. Figure NAV will be about $2000, RSE about $1600, tow package I can't see as mor than $500. So with a 7 seater base of $33,999, then fully loaded should only be $38,099. And I might be high on my tow package option. This is a $1000 less than their fully loaded price.

I think those numbers were just spit out in a ball park figure.

There's also an upgraded sound system option that takes you from a 100 watt single CD player with 6 speakers to a 160 watt 6-CD changer with 9 speakers. Not sure if it's $1000, though. I'm sure there'll be other options, too.

Good catch, forgot about the stereo. Either way if MSRP is 39,999 figure invoice will be around the high 36 or low 37 thousand range. This a way better option then a simular spec MDX will will be a couple thousand more. Definately have to give it a look when it comes to the Philly auto show.

i wasn't able to make it out there last night, but looking at the spec sheet i'm a bit dissapointed...4200lbs and only 220ft-lbs, i think it may be rather sluggish.....

but wait, you get 10 cup holders....i wonder if they are all above the stereo??

can't wait to see the first 3L 6cyl, turbo WRX ...or gc8

This was asked by someone in the crowd (sorry I forgot). It is still being fully evaluated (sounds like a yes, but don't know the specs yet) and won't be available initially.

If any of you are near Southern California or Detroit, do yourself a favor and go to the show and see this incredible vehicle in person. What's funny is after seeing this vehicle in person, the rest of the Subaru line suddenly seems less than impressive in comparison (although the 1000HP WRX Rally car with a boasted 0-60 time of 1.8 seconds was quite impressive).

I was there last night. I does look better in person than in pictures. The interior is actually very nice. There is an upgraded towing capacity up to 3500 lbs IIRC. XM was possible. Hybrid technology was being "considered" and High Performance model was not ruled out, but not really answered either.

thanks for feeding us Subaru. that was kind of you.

so were are the pics?We got very nice mini brocheres at the dealership today. My guess is that these are the autoshow brocheres for the B9.One of the most tastefully done brocheres I have ever seen Subaru do.This may be a good sign of things to come from the marketing dept-Brian
