Jdm headlights - question about HID
was wondering if you can disconnect and remove the hid kit from the headlight housing and still use the headlights with regular bulbs?
reason being is because a local member is selling jdm lights with hid, and i want his hid kit but not the headlights. thanks! Dave.

No, it's not a "kit". The ballast is integrated into the light housing assembly and the bulbs are D2S which will only fit into OEM HID housings. If you're only considering buying the lights for this purpose don't bother, save your money.
You may want to read the HID FAQ thread in the Electrical forum for more info on HIDs and the problems with retrofits into factory reflector housings. edit- now that this thread has been moved, just look up on top. Last edited by Mulder; 04-15-2005 at 11:49 PM. |

If you're in need of the HID setup specifically from the OEM HID projectors, the ballasts and ignitors are made by Matsu****a. They were also used in some Nissan's and Infinite's at around the same time period (2001-2003). It'd be easier and probably cheaper to just buy a standard plug and play 9007 HID kit rather than sourcing them from OEM HID projectors and mess with the wiring.
But to answer your question, removing the HID components from the projectors involves more than just disconnecting stuff. You will have to take apart the headlight in order to remove the ignitors which are mounted inside the housing and that will also involve cutting wires unless you decide not to keep the rubber grommet that the wires pass through. You wont be able to use regular halogen bulbs unless you rebase them to fit D2S/D2R sockets. |
