Yes, it has a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

While parked on a very steep downhill slope, my 5spd took four tries to go in reverse. It was pretty scary as each time I tried backing up, my car jerked further ahead as if I was in first gear. . Thankfully the fourth try worked as I was 2ft from going down a mountain.

Anybody else have this happen? Maybe a faulty hill assist?

Yeah I'd get that checked out... my hill start assist is great when I need to reverse. Did you have the car in reverse before you let off the break?

Put it into 1st gear first or let the clutch up while in neutral . Common issue with Subaru transmissions.

Reverse gear is not synchronized, and occasionally it will be hard to shift into reverse.

Try shifting first into 2nd or 1st gear to line up the gears then shift into reverse and it should go right in (you don't need to drive in these gears, just keep the clutch in and move the lever into 1st or 2nd to borrow those syncros and line everything up).

I also found it to be a less common problem after putting Amsoil Severe Gear in the front differential/transmission case.

The car was clearly shifted into reverse each time.

Oh, the way you originally described the situation, I thought the problem was that you were having trouble engaging reverse gear, not that you were having a problem with the hill assist.

I think hill assist only works when facing uphill

^^ No, I don't think that's true. I've experienced it facing up and down hill.

Hill assist only works facing uphill for me... not reverse

When did I ever assume it didn't shift into reverse?

Anyone else wearing through their floor mats rather quickly? 9000 miles and I've got a good heel mark under the gas pedal.

Yeah, same here with my OEM rubber mat. Have had them in for about 10000 miles. Just ordered WeatherTechs the other day. Can't wait to get them in the car.

Hill start assist keeps you from rolling backward if in a forward gear, and from rolling forward if in reverse.

i found that. i have never had the opportunity to try facing downslope and trying to go in reverse upslope. if that makes sense

It is pretty easy, not as clean an install as drilling the plastic on the hatch door for individual led's though. Much much better lighting though.
