Its a total replacement for the orignal ECU and yes your bet bet is going to be a full wire in unless you can see if Skywalker can prefab something when you buy a Link2 from his shop.

Exclamation as I posted in your other thread

1-e-mail Andrew @ www.carmodifications.com he's the one that is doing this for me

2-they can and will make you a plug-in unit for you, you just need to send them a stock ECU simular to yours.

3-complete replacement read here

I am in the process of doing this, stock ECU should be there today. They are making a plug-in unit for my '96 Impreza

"None of the LINK Engine Management systems can be utilized to use the OBD2
port. Only Factory computers can use the OBD2 port sorry."

IS this true?

If that's what Link says.....

I don't have to do emissions so I don't have to worry about it

Maybe I asked the wrong person @ carmodifications.com

Perhaps I didn't phrase the questions correctly.

Turbo GC4 - Please find out so I can copy your swap.

Alan - Why don't you have to get tested??? You live in IL.

mkyrrr - You got to help me figure this one out bud. As you can see I am all over this board asking the same questions like 5 differnt ways just trying to figure out how to do this.

I cant understand what is so different between the JDM ej20 sensors and our L sensors. I mean, If i put an L 02 sensor into the ej20, it will make the same out put right?

So if i can get the harness and sensors to hook up to the JDM ej20, then all i need is some sort of ECU that will support that.

Looks like the Link2 is the closest, since I cna just wire it in easily.

Then its just a mater of getting a good map.

But there is one more problem (if you found my other threads)... carmodifications.com is concerned about the IACV. I dont understand this completely.

He said soemthing about there bing a problem w/ one valve being 6wire and one being 2wire. Im confused because I looked at my 98L iacv, and it seems to have 3wires.

Turbo GC4 - I'm sooooo the wrong person to answer your questions. I'm as much a wiring n00b as you. You're actually in a better position than me since you've got the motor already. I'm just dreaming about this.

I'll try to get as much info as possible.

Good luck.

actually i dont have the motor yet. It is just sitting there. Im not going to buy it unless i can find a way to wire it up.

Im running out of ideas and rescources. Its not likely that I will find the JDM ECU and harness to go w/ it...

Standalone is my only option I think. But there is still a problem figuring out how to get the standalone to interface w/ the motor.

All in all, you might still be better off just replacing your 2.2 with another one so you have something to drive and work on. Its just easier to build up in stages when you dont' have a full blown engine swap to worry about.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with the EJ22 for Turbo. It might be a good idea to install a link now because good tuning will be better for your engine than just about anything else. That way you only have the ECU side of the wiring to worry about too.

Then if you decide you want to build up a stronger engine or whatnot, you have a basic setup already in place that you have experience on.

here's a stupid thought...; what if i put the L intake manifold on the WRX motor. Still using the WRX fuel rails/injectors/throttlebody.

Wouldnt the iacv no longer be an issue? Or am i totally screwing myself by downgrading to an L intake manifold.

You may be able to swap Throttlebodies and be good, but I don't know for sure if the mounting flange has been the same with all the manifolds. The bore itself should be very very close though, so performance wise the swap would be negligable.

Actually, there is a chance you may be able to swap the IAC by itself. Or people have had success with rewiring the new IAC to work like an older style IIRC. There are many many possible options. Just hard finding people with the definate answers.

You may have to just get it and try, as hard as that is to swallow. When doing things yourself and trying to save as much money as possible you have to take some chances with things working. BTW, what year is the EJ20 from? USDM or JDM?
