I'm an iPhone guy so that's about the limit to my knowledge of how androids work with the AR3. I can say that you aren't the first to have issues. Different android phones seem to require different propriatary adapters to work properly, if at all.

Firgured it out, s3 needs to have usb power attached to the mhl cable to work, just using the home charger in the wall for now.

Btw, phone is not jailbroken and right now it's mirroring eveything on the deck screen. I have Nasioc on my Pioneer deck lol. This supposed to happen? All my apps, camera included mirror to the deck. That mirror link?

I have the video on my old flip camera somewhere but never got around to uploading it all the way.

I am very very happy with the radio though. It works great, fast response, perfect with Waze & Pandora (at the same time as well), and sound quality is pretty good with just the factory speakers and under-seat sub.

Definitely $400 well spent!

Thanks for your reply. I've read good reviews and some really bad reviews so am hesitating. Glad to hear that you're so happy with it! If you ever get a chance, I'd really like to see your video...

From what I've seen anyone writing a bad review of AR3 didn't buy it for it's intended purpose or has phone issues. If you buy it with the intention of using it for what Pioneer designed it to do, and not for any jailbreak programs, rooting programs, this, that, or the other thing, you will be happy. I plug my iPhone 4s in to the Pioneer branded connectivity cable, use only programs listed in the actual Appradio app, and have little to no problems. The ONLY time I have a glitch is when my phone has trouble opening the appradio app but it almost never happens after the last app update.

That's great to hear. I think you may have convinced me. One more question though...Will you be upgrading your iPhone 4s to a 5 or 5s and do you have any concerns about that? I've heard there are some video issues with the 5??

The day pre-orders open for the new iPhone (5s/6) I'll be placing an order. Not anticipating any issues with connectivity to the AR3.

Not sure on that one. I may have an older iPod at home though that I can try out for you. If I find it I'll post up how it went.

Are you planning on changing your cables to the Pioneer iPhone® 5 HDMI Connection Package cables? That's my concern...the lightening connection won't be compatible with the iPod Classic 30 pin connector.

Yes I do, or whatever cable is recommended from Pioneer, but I would assume it won't be changed.

I would contact Crutchfield and tell them you have an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4 and want to be able to connect both to the AR3 and see what they say.

It LOOKS like you can just get the cable for the iPhone 4/4s and leave the USB portion somewhere you can access it. That way you can switch between the iPhone 5 connections and 4/4s connections. You would just need to get the Apple® Lightning***8482; Digital AV Adapter, an Apple® Lightning***8482; to USB Cable, and a normal HDMI cord.

P.S. It seems that Crutchfield is selling the CD/DVD AR3 for the same price as the non-CD/DVD unit. Don't know if that will be permanent or not, but probably a good time to buy. Many places aren't even carrying the non-CD/DVD unit anymore so maybe it was simply discontinued.

Thanks for all your help. I bought it at Crutchfield for $399 and am having it installed in a week. Pioneer says that you can have one cable connected to the back and then plug in either the iPhone 5 cable or the iPhone 4 cable (for the iPod Classic) depending on what you need at the time. We'll see how that works. Thanks again...

So I have an upgrade, not really impressed with the iPhone 5s. I have had an original app radio in my car for the last year, enjoyed it with my 4s using a variety of apps, dash command, waze, pandora, etc. I am also selling my car. I will want to put a new HU in the car I am looking at, and will probably end up with an s4 or note 3.

Those on android with the AR3, I have always felt the AR is made for iPhone but capable with android. Do you still feel it is the best HU in the price point for your phone? I have read some of the problems with running the mirror-link hack (can't remember what it is called) on the newer android phones, have those been fixed yet? What other HU would be comparable to this that I should look at?

look into ARliberator... its not currently working with AR3 but the developer is already working on it.

ARLiberator + android phones = awesome. You wont even think twice about getting another iOs device once you get it setup.

Just got my AR3 installed tonight. I did the bypass via relay. Not really sure if it's working correctly or not because my car is up on jack stands right now, lol. The iPod, Apps and Pandora were not lit. Is this because my phone wasn't connected through a cable or normal?

I did hook up the bluetooth easily though, sounds good so far.

Now, to find out a way to get a radio signal.

Phone has to be connected in order for those options to light up. If you're using an iPhone 5 (or other lightning cable device), the iPod option will not light up. You will need to go into app mode and use CarMediaPlayer.

Thanks.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. What app do I need to use for the mirror stuff? I've never been big on staying up to date on apps and too much technology. I've never paid for an app I only download the free ones. I would be willing to buy the ARL if it becomes compatible with my AR3 though.

All I really use are Pandora (but now iTunes radio) and Waze. I have some of the other ones, but I never really use them.
