Default Big question for all GC8 with JDM engine swap specialists

Hello all

first I am driving a MY00 2.5 RS with automatic transmission (don't laugh), and I would like to know if I like to get an JDM V7 STI engine and transmission swap (swap from my current auto to a six speed manual, but actually I don't really know how to drive a manual well), is it very complicated / is that worth?

Coz some of my friends has already found the engine and transmission and I would like to know is that better to do the swap?

Or is that better to sell the car as well as the engine and transmission and buy a brand new 05/06 WRX wagon instead?

Thanks

to be able to use the STi transmission, you need to have the whole rear end as well, including driveshafts and diffs.

be careful with the engine/trannys you see selling online because most of them only come with engine/tranny w/o the rear end. also, the wiring is often inclomplete.

i made a ton of phone calls the last few weeks, so i know.

keep the GC8 and do a swap.

You dont necessarily need the R180 rear end. You can use R160 rear ends, either find ones from legacy/forrester turbo's with vlsd's or swap in the 3.9 gears into a wrx 160. But make sure you dont keep an open diff... its not going to be nice with all that power! Many people use the r160 rear without driveshaft problems either... cant remember off hand which one they use.
Going with the 180 means going brembo's all around and that means limited wheel choice and of course more $$$$. I went that route and I like it but i thinking of other options now as the bimbo's are mega expensive to change rotors and pads.

As for the question, mechanically its a very easy swap to do. Wiring is a completely different story. Easiest version 7 swap is done into a 02-03 wrx... 8 wires to add for the AVCS, the rest plugs right in! So if youre electronically inept then I would go that route!
Just a small note, the ej207 is a beautiful piece of engineering, its one of nicest engines ive driven. They are blueprinted from factory and rev much smoother and higher than the USDM wrx or STi engines. Mine doesnt consume a drop of oil between changes. My friends with USDM engines go through about 1/2 a litres.... goes to show the tolerancing!
Good luck

my V4 STi consumes nothing as well. it revs past 8k easily and pulls like a freight train! using the R160 currently with zero issues. i just tore a boot om my front pass shaft, but happens to the best of em.

i say swap the GC(surprise!) unless you're diggin the wagon. then go get a wagon(GF) and swap that. GC/GF looks better than WRX imho. and price is the other issue(too high resale for nothing) why i won't buy a WRX. STi is the same. i'd rather go forester since they has the TR WRX drivetrain and room for bikes, etc.

keep the gc8 and swap it, also u need to learn to drive a stick or u might as well buy a luxury auto cus auto and speed dont mix well unless u got a sports shifter like those rally cars, think about going into a turn in an auto, u dont have as much control over the vehicle as if u where downshifting in a stick...learn to drive a stick or dont go fast at all...gl
