Sound deadening gone crazy...
Hi all,
I've been postin some pics here n there of my GC project deadening fun... I thought I would put it all together and make a single post... Now, understand that 90% of people would NOT go this far, but, I've been lucky and had some REALLY nice things happen to me lately, which is odd, cause nice thing generally don't happen for me... I would also like to thank Daishi00, for being a really great stand up guy, we've been though a lot here on NASIOC in the past year or better, from all the noobs having be taught a lesson (Audio, DFX, Jake, others..lol) to getting totally frustrated and leaving on a "walkabout" for a few weeks, it happens to the best of us, but I really wanted to thank Daishi for putting up with all of my #H!T and hooking me up with the Eclipse. I would also like to thank Audiosavvy, what a wealth of working installer info.. patient to the core, cocky at first, but was able to see the error of his ways quickly and opened himself up for some real learning, now, this section of NASIOC wouldn't be the same without him.... We bounce things off each other all the time in effort to increase our knowledge and outlook on Car Audio The Eggroll.... What can I say man, you rock..!! ruiner, what would life be like here without you to keep us straight.. Thanks for sticking it out for as long as you have...! EDIT: I need to put AquaCow in here as well, Dave has been here as long as I have helping out members whenever he has the chance, a real asset to the community...Thank you Dave..!! There are plenty I'm not going to mention, but, you all should know who you are. If you are adding valuable input to this section, you deserve a big thank you as well, it's just early and I've drank to much coffee... I wouldn't be where I am without you all... I just want you to know that... On with the pictars... Starting with Cascade Vmax... Floor... (more to come on the floor) Doors... Top half, outside skin... 2 layers, over lapped Bottom half, outside skin.. 3 layers overlapped Another layer of Second Skin Damplifier Pro, over the Vmax.. Add some SS Overkill Pro...top half of door Bottom half of door... Last edited by Aaron'z 2.5RS; 02-17-2008 at 11:31 AM. |

Starting inside skin... SS D Pro
Inside skin complete, wasn't able to completely seal the door, but I think i'm close enough... some places 1 layer, some 2, some 3... as I got closer to the speaker location, I layered on more... I used aluminum "duct" tape on the inside, where the door latch/lock rods were to keep from sticking to the wrong stuff, than added a layer of SS Overkill to keep anything from making noise.. Taped everything down with aluminum duct tape... Starting the SS Overkill.... Trunk monkey, making sure I got it right... Last edited by Aaron'z 2.5RS; 02-01-2008 at 08:53 AM. |

Lastly, I pulled the Turbo Timer out... and someone confirm for me that the "jumper" shown, was a simple plug in break out to power the TT, I removed it and plugged the 2 connectors under the steering colum back and they fit.... am I good, or am I gonna
I also found some connectors under the dash, dissconected, I'm guessing for the non-existant fog lights, any help here?? (2 green, 1 black) Enjoy peoples, we've all come a long way and ya'll give me the inspiration to be doing this... Cheers, Aaron Last edited by Aaron'z 2.5RS; 02-01-2008 at 08:57 AM. |

Wow awesome work Aaron! Thanks for the props!! I am not an Electrical Engineer (which is what I assume you meant, but maybe someone else here is?) so I looked up other definitions of what EE could be. I liked Expert Editor so I'm going with that one
I didn't go all out like you did with my sound deadening. I did my doors nearly identical to you, with the exception that I didn't add any foam to the RAAMmat on the doors. I also did my trunk about as thoroughly as you did. I did nothing to the cabin floor or ceiling though as I still needed to drive the car, and never felt I would have enough time to finish that, and still be able to drive it regularly. I probably could do it now that I'm married, but my garage is too small to do that sort of thing. Do you have everything in the car now, or are these recent photos? |

Crap.. I thought you were an EE... Editing now...
It's nice for me, cause this one isn't seeing salted roads, so it's just sitting in the garage... I pull it out all the time to work on other cars (I do a lot of maintenence, like the blown turbo I halped a friend diagnose the other weekend (poor guy) on a 88 Mazda 626 2.2l Turbo) that's why she's so dirty.. The pics of the rear deck are from monday night (was out there till 12am) so yeah, they are fresh..WIP.. |

The two greens are what you connect to put your car into diagnostic mode.
DON'T connect them. |

I don't know what Aaron weighs, but if you put a 300 lb guy in a car instead of 180 lb car would you automatically say "SO MUCH FOR RACING FAT ASS!!"?? Seriously. 150 lbs isn't that much weight when you're talking about an RS that already weighs 500 lbs less than the WRX.
Loaded weight actually helps top speed in many cases |

Personaly, not to be rude, But I have to laugh at these people that go WAY overboard with weight reduction, like the guy that built up my car, he was going for a road racer, understood, he didn't hardly drive the car. For someone like me that is going to be driving this, not quite daily, but driving it somewhat normaly(did I mention my 90mi a day comute to work)... WHAT'S THE POINT? I can only "legaly" do 70 on the hwy... so WHY in gods name would I want a car that is so freakin loud?? Why would I concern myself with what it weighs as long as it's still fast (which it WILL be) It's plenty fast enough to get me locked up... why would I need more? It's already a cop maginet, so, while i'm doing the speed limit and I have some asshat in a stripped car flying past me... Fine... I'll turn up whatever sweet sounds i've got playing, and cruse... |

Thank you for the kind words. I've learned more from you guys than I've contributed. This is my favorite forum here on Nabisco because of the respect we have for each other, and we feed off each other's knowledge, and further our own game while helping people.
That's awesome work man, I knew what you were doing, but had no idea of the extent. Good thing you have her built under the hood, with all that weight I don't know how you get off the line . I think I should change my screen name after seeing that, I have a total of 8-10sq feet in my car (some of us still have to go fast ) and I guarantee it won't sound anything like yours. I went as far as you with my Tacoma, but that was a single cab, it was a 1-day job . Good luck man, I want more pictures of that car too, it's hot boy! And when you come out to California, I wanna hear that beast. Or do I? I might not want to get back in mine.... -Brandon |

I don't see any sound dampening being installed in my car, so how can you be doing it for the rest of us? Your car is an inspiration to those who may want to replicate what you've done, and you've provided excellent pictures for them to learn from. |

That's what I'm talking about. Yeah oh that's nice. Ok I'll be back in a few....
What turbo do you have on that beast? I'm going stage 4 in less than 2 weeks, I bet I'll beat you with all that extra weight . Did I see SPR-17LS (2006 Alpine Type R) components in the doors there, obviously from before you went crazy? |
