Default Want to replace the khumos...

I'm replacing the tires on my aftermarket wheels (245/40/17), and I'm wondering if I should switch to a different tire. Right now I've got Khumo Ecsta MX's on, they came highly recommended, and it seems like a lot of autocrossers run them, but I when I talked to my buddies at Dobbs they recommended getting a different tire. They said they'd get me BFG T/A KD's for the same price as the Khumo MX's (theres normally a $200 difference for the set), and I'm going to talk to them on tuesday about some Yokohama ADVAN Neova's. I'm hoping to get 2 years of spirited driving out of them (if that's not optimistic, that is), like the Khumos, but hopefully with a more responsive tire. The last year on the khumos (which half of it was spent in a garage non-driven), was a joke, and my RE92's are outperforming them.

I'm no expert. The guys at Dobbs that I talked to about racing tires (who run their cars on the track too) have 10 years+ experience on the subject. But at the same time, AutoXers normally have an eye for good buys and making the most of their money.

So what do you guys recommend? Get another set of Khumo's, or pay the same price for BFG's (plus the road-hazard for free)? And if I can get the Yokohama's for around the same price (with free road hazard), would you guys recommend those more?

Thanks NASIOC, and Merry Christmas!

...those bfg's may be a bit scary in the wet.

....the re01r's or re050PP's may be good choices, too.

I had and liked the MX's just fine.

How many miles a year?

The KD's are STILL after all these years a very competitive tire but not so hot in the wet.

They aren't going to last on the street though. Maybe 20k depending how you drive. Amazingly direct though...pretty extreme for a daily driver though...

Again, great dry performance, poor in the wet. But if you get KD's for MX $$$, thats a darn good deal.

Well I was told that the Khumo's were good for 15k, so I guess 15k would be good again, 20k would be nice. I'm a pretty aggressive driver, and I will probably autoX on these tires, so I want something that will be competitive (in both dry and wet conditions if possible).
