Noise at high speed
Is it normal to hear a high pitched noise at speeds over 130 MPH? also the noise disappears when you go under 130MPH. Please Help...

Easy Fix
At speeds over 130, roll down the window, and stick your head out for about 15-20 seconds.
Then bring your head back in, and roll the window up. That noise will see remarkably quiet compaired to how loud it just was. Bryce |

Don't go above 130mph. That should cure it.
What kind of noise? Are you sure it isn't just wind noise? The WRX is not a "clean" car as far as areo is concerned. Where does the noise come from? High-pitched...metal on metal squeal? What? |

130's getting close the drag limit.. so it may be airflow off a lot of things... maybe the antenna?

This has been posted many times before... The general consenses is that it's the side view mirrors, if you want to be sure try folding them in and it should no longer be there.

Why don't you just say " Hey everyone I went 130 mph. I am cool". Grow up and slow down.

HIHO:
I think you are right. When I wrote that were not thinking in what you are saying, I was only concerned with my irresponsibility of going at that speed. And hey that's cool, may be unconsciously I was trying to say, I drove at that speed. Forgive me. Can you teach me to drive like an old lady, you know..... Experience count. Just joking. jeje |

No, the joke is a dumb a$$ like you driving a WRX. Its like giving a monkey a loaded and cocked gun. You are the reason WRX insurance is going up. Plus you give other owners (sport compacts) a bad name.
P.S. Go back to school and learn how to write. |

He asks a legitimate question and gets blasted, I'm getting sick of all the "holier than thou" posts. Just like the people who post asking about performance upgrades for their car and people respond "Driving school." I don't recall him saying where he did it; it could have been at a track. I along with many others have had their WRX's up to that speed and we don't like to be told to grow up when we explore our cars limits in a safe environment. (as much as a flat, empty stretch of road with a spotter can be)

WAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! I will make sure I keep my opinion to myself for now on. Not really. Maybe some of use have had close family members killed by a high speed driver! You know the kind that go 130 mph and think nothing could possible happen that might cause them to kill innocent people who weren't going 130 mph. Its fine if you want to take your life in your own hands, but when your selfish enough to disregard the life of others you should not be allowed to drive. So remember, this is a public board and not everyone is going to agree with everything you do here. So get over it, the world is full of responsible people.
PS- There is no such thing as an empty PUBLIC road. |

130mph
I think we should first find out how and where he did that speed. Not all drivers that have been up to that speed now and again are irresponsible. I am very responsible and sometimes late at night on a staight and deserted road I have been to that speed. I can tell you that my car is probably safer at that speed than some of the boy racers (Rice) going at 90mph.
HIHO : Before you trash someone find out more. Some people like the scooby BECAUSE of better handling a speeds that's why they GOT one. |

HIHO
As a matter of fact I do know that there are no other cars on the road, taht's why I do it there.(Not often like my post might have suggested BTW.).I know the road well and there are no potholes etc that you mention. If by an act of God something does happen I know that it is just me that's involved. In my book that IS responsible. BTW the same could happen to someone travelling at 90mph and cause an accident.
Also I would like mention that your interpretation of high speed being associated with irresponsibilty is a very grey area. I DO NOT by writing this post imply that going out at 130mph on public roads is the right thing to do. I am merely speaking from my personal experience. Whether others take all the risks involved is another thing. Please tell me if you have never taken a corner or slight bend at a higher speed that you should have or if you have ever answered your mobile phone at 30mph on a busy road or if you ate your hamburger while on the freeway or lit your cigarette or if you looked at the beautiful car next to you while taking your eyes off the car in front of you and THEN lets talk about responsible driving. I'd much prefer a car enthusiast with 100% concentration on his driving than the average Joe with his kid jumping around the car while his own seat belt is on. Yes, you do get freaks that speed, but that does not mean that all people that speed are freaks. Ask Disrupter about the details of his 130mph run and you might find that is was on the track and all your trashing of him would have been in vain. Then check your own driving habits and really tells us that you can sit on your high horse and trash others. |

YA! You could be driving responsibly at 90mph on public roads and still have an accident... Yes you will probably hear weird noises going 130mph+, i'm not sure what your concern is though. |

O.K. If we're splitting hairs you could drive resposibly at 30mph and still cause a serious accident. Come on!

I don't own a cell phone(my wife does), I don't eat in my car, I don't smoke. Yes, I have looked at another car while driving but I was doing the posted speed limit so I was not putting myself or others in danger. Look, give it up there is NO way that you or anyone else can go 130mph on public roads and be driving responsibly. So please stop talking out your bum hole. |

HIHO
I seen many an accident caused by the things that I mentioned and very FEW by anyone going 130mph, so yes I am comparing the statistics.
I will give it up now because I can see by your reply that you are definitley the most responsible driver. Congrats. (I feel that your opinion might be biased by a personal loss caused by a jerk and I'm really sorry if that's the case but please try not to label all of us.) |

If because I say going high speeds in public areas is dangerous, and that makes me the most responsible driver than so be it. I just think it makes me a mature driver. Like I said before grow up and slow down. |

HIHO, A spotter with a cell phone and a remote stretch of road that you are familiar with is pretty damn safe. I grew up in Germany(13 years), I don't need someone to tell me about high speed driving. My point is this, if you don't have anything to add to the post stay out, especially when you don't know all the details.

You guy talking out your bum."We are great drives and going a 130mph is totally safe" I would have more respect for you if you just said "Yes it is dangerous but we are just stupid sometimes". Disruptor I know what the board is for but sometime you just have to point out the numb nuts. |
