Then you only need a jacket. Jeans are fine according to NHRA. You also need a rollbar to run 11.99 or quicker.

Rollbar is in the works, gonna be tricky tho because I want a legal rollbar while keeping the back seats usable. My guy thinks he can do it tho.

I'd like to do some solo sprints down the line as well, if I can work my way around the roll cage restrictions.

Yah think? I don't think so. You wouldn't feel so silly if you crashed and your car caught on fire.
It wouldn't really look any sillier than wearing great big fire proof racing gloves with a t-shirt (no offence Geremy, just using you as a comparison ).
I used to wear a nomex flight suit when I flew basically the honda civic of the air (C172) rather than a fighter jet... the civic can still crash and I would rather reduce the odds of third degree burns if I managed to walk away (or crawl) from a crash landing.

In summary, if I had a nomex driving suit on hand, I would wear it to a track day.

I won't wear it to autocross or the local drag strip, but I'll wear it for solo sprint and 1/4 mile drags

and it was cheeeap, like 200 bucks for everything (excluding the helmet)

Thanks Scott, please feel free to use me in any comparisons of silliness.

Besides, I'm just worried about burning my hands.

In the words of the late great Greg Moore, "Red gloves rule".

shawmacs the gloves and t-shirt thing is different. The gloves are for feel not safety.

^so what you are saying is, if you dress a particular way for safety, it is silly. But if you dress the same way for "feel" then it is cool.

Got it.

No, what I'm saying is over dressing for perceived safety looks silly. When dressing for feel, you wouldn't wear a full suit Scott, you're being silly now. Gloves alone are different from a whole suit. The jacket with a pair of jeans could probably allow the same level of safety for his needs, without the goofy over dressed look.

Splinter, is that suit Nomex? What are the ratings on it? I want to see how much more flame retardant they are then a pair of jeans....since drag cars running into the 10's at Mission allow jeans with flame resistant jackets and gloves.
