When can new model years be pre-ordered in general? For instance, I'm curious when the 2014 forester can start to be ordered?

Right now we can only "order" 2013MY vehicles. The catch is that the BRZ orders will prolly be pushed into 2014MY vehicles due to supply/demand. This is the same thing that happened to the guys that had originally ordered 2012MY WRX/STi's that got pushed into 2013MY cars.

The 2014MY Foresters will prolly be available to order in the first quarter of 2013CY but I don't have enough info to say for sure without a doubt. It could be as early as the fourth quarter of this year or the second quarter of next year?

Thanks. As a related question, how early are release details/brochures usually given to you (that you are able to share/show to customers)?

I.e. when can I come in and look at the official details/cost of the 2014 Forester. I know that a leaked version of the JDM brochure came out, but I'm just looking for how soon I could come in to realistically start talking about the MY2014... This is the first time I've been considering a pre-order on a car, so I'm not sure in general how early the whole research process at the dealer can begin.

Realistically we won't have anything for quite some time. The "official" details I would assume to be released in the first quarter of 2013CY.

This will probably be the same as the 2011 WRX/STi and 2012 Impreza where we will have the ability to order before we actually have pricing/equipment information.

Is anyone knowledgeable on the Hurricane Sandy incentive program? One of my vehicles was damaged but I didn't have comprehensive coverage so I never filed an insurance claim for it.

Not I. Can you please clarify your question? Is this a gov't or mfr incentive program?

I know right now there are several mfr's that are providing incentives to customers affected by Sandy.

Wish I saw this thread before I bought my '13 WRX hatch. I have a couple questions in hindsight that I didn't think about earlier.

Personally, I refuse to talk numbers until I drive everything that's on my list of potentials. I make that clear at the start of things. And before negotiations even started, I had an offer for a loan already in my hand. I figure that's a good way to be taken seriously. The dealer knew they couldn't match my offer in-house, but they worked with several banks local to them to get me a better deal. How much of a benefit was that to them than me using my own financing offer? Is it effectively the same thing or do banks typically give some sort of kickback for the business?

Yes, everything has a kickback(referral fee) regarding loans and services. It is just a matter to whom the bank will pay.

Yep, like AllAWD said. Any time you sell a "product" there is profit to be made. Loans, warranties, service plans, etc all have a percentage of profit to be made.

So it is in the Finance Dept's best interest to try and gain your business in as many ways as possible.

If you come in with a loan already in hand, don't opt for any extra products/services then the Finance Mgr just printed paperwork and didn't make anything for their paycheck.

That's why I always kinda chuckle when my customers threaten me with paying cash to get a leg up in negotiations when all that does is kill their chances of getting a "better" deal because you have eliminated any chance of my Finance Dept to make a cent.

Dealers will always take you seriously if you are actually "in house". If you are an internet tough guy that says this but does the other, then you won't be taken seriously.

SoA is running it; the issue is I never filed paperwork with FEMA or my insurance company, so now I'm scrambling to find some way to prove my vehicle was damaged in Sandy.

Ok, I just looked it up in SubaruNet. Looks like you can reach out to 800-SUBARU3 or [email protected] for any questions or concerns.

It appears that you need FEMA paperwork and claims form to be eligible. It is a 500 credit towards a new 12/13 or CPO Suby.

Honestly the way that our Sale Pricing has been these past few months, I would pull the trigger regardless of this incentive. Pricing has been so good lately we've had several employees purchase cars.

I currently live in Waldorf and have received the notice about getting the ECU update('12 Impreza 4dr) Each time I have tried to set up an appt with the Waldorf Dealership the "machine is not ready" and this I have yet to get this update. Would there be any problems with me having this done at another dealership?

Nope. You can have it done at any Subaru Dealer. Waldorf is so bad that it's neighbors (live a stones throw away) consistently come here for purchase and service.

Here's my issue(s);
I am in the market to trade in my 2003 4door wrx for a 2013 wrx (wrb if possible) premium 5door. KBB says a poor condition trade in for my car is $5000, RK appraised it at $3000 which I think is BS, CASEY says they will try to give me at least $4500. Here's the real issue, RK runs business in a more appropriate manner. They sell their wrx's for msrp unless it has factory add ons, CASEY is jacking up their prices by $4200, RK doesn't have a WRB, CASEY does. I want minimum $4500 for my car, I want max msrp for new one, and I'd really like a wrb. Can I fight RK to get me a more fair appraisal? I basically told them they have my business because they have been extremely friendly, honest, upfront and most of all they know what they are selling. CASEY is pushy, they try to tell you they'll discount the car to msrp which is retarded and they don't know s&%# about subarus. What should I do? RK tried doing a DX for the WRB premium but CASEY won't sell it since they know I want it and they can potentially have my business. So I feel like I'm gonna be screwed out of getting a WRB Premium Hatch without doing a factory order

This may not be relevant... but have you taken your car to Car Max for a free appraisal? They usually come in with a strong offer (since they can sell your car in over 100 locations and will just transfer your car somewhere they can make the most from it). I've purchased many cars and I always walk in with an appraisal from Car Max to have them at least match it.

Not sure if that helps... but if you were able to show that more than one location will give you more for your ride... maybe that would help.

(Not a dealer... I've just purchased a lot of cars).

I have been outright told by dealerships to go to Carmax to sell the car because they can't match it, and they'd come and pick me up!!!

The thing to be aware... depending on what state you live in (not sure of VA rules here), a trade in gives you a reduction in the taxes you pay on the new vehicle... so incentive to trade in and try to negotiate up to at least carmax's offer.

If I were you, I'd just go to Casey and get my car. Go back to RK for service.

Even if you get RK to meet your trade-in requirements, they don't have the car you want to buy. It's at Casey.

When you start "shopping" around with other dealers it makes a dealer trade damn near impossible. The dealer with the car won't give it up once they know who the customer is.

The next solution is like what the others have said. Go to CarMax and have them buy your car out right. Then you can go to what ever dealer has the "right" car.

I know it's a hike but Browns in Charlottesville has a WRB Premium en route to their store.

Thanks guys, awesome advice all around. I'm trying to do everything I can NOT to deal with Casey. Yes they have my car but I hate how they run business, period. I come from a family line of personally owned small businesses so I have a huge appreciation when a business proves their worth to me and shows they actually care about the customer

I have a couple questions regarding the 2013 Impreza 2.0 - sedan. If you have any additional information, outside of my questions, I would greatly appreciate as well. If you have any cars that I am looking for coming in, please let me know.

How often do the dealerships get a new shipment of the cars? I am not talking about customer ordered cars but dealer inventory. Also, will there be more manual transmission cars coming to this area? I understand it is the beginning of the year, but when I look at the new inventory on the websites it seems to be all CVT transmission cars.

It has been a while since I owned a subaru. Back in 2006 I bought a STi from Don Beyers but I don't think the salesman is there anymore. Derek was his name I believe... I mainly remember his black Sti with the license tag EVILSTI. He had just totaled the car prior to me coming in and buying my STi. I really miss having a Subaru and I plan on getting one soon.

I don't want to order a car because I really don't know exactly what I want just yet. I just like being able to test drive it, like it and bring it home.

If it helps. I want a manual. I did test drive both transmissions and still like the manual better. I like the dark interior, and all the exterior colors that go with the dark interior. Silver & Red being the most favorable with Blue then dark gray trailing. And I saw the alloy/moonroof package which I like as well

I wish I could go with a WRX but reality sets in. 2006 with the STi I was single living in an apartment. Now in 2013 I have a wife, a house, etc.... So the Impreza 2.0 seems to be in my affordability range.

Thank you,
-Mike

We get new shipments of cars monthly. Manual Trans cars are unpredictable in their respective delivery schedules. They are some what rare. We usually have a couple cars here in stock that can last a year or be gone in a heartbeat. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Yep, we all would like to be able to drive it, like it and drive it home. This is the problem though right now. There just aren't enough cars on the ground or en route for the "normal" way of buying a car.

These cars have been order only since the release in 2011 and I don't expect this to change for quite some time.

To buy a new Impreza it will require a bit more time and patience.

Please let me know of any other questions that you have.

PS: Yep, Derek's gone. I've been here over 3 years now and never met him.

This guy is right. I worked at Honda for years and the shipment of cars you received was very unpredictable. Maybe it's just Japanese automakers though. I also worked for a few GM dealers and they could tell you every last detail of what they were getting.

I do know that some Subaru dealers are able to track what they are getting...that's how I timed the purchase of mine. Only thing was I was tracking a SWP and a PBP showed up! Doh! Still love this color when it's clean.

Speaking of....could you give me an online appraisal of my 2012 WRX? This baby on the way has got me thinking of changing my priorities a bit. I checked your site out and you guys don't have a used car in stock that I'm looking for. Thanks!

No, we would need to see the car in person to give a proper appraisal. You can use KBB, Edmunds, etc to give you an internet "ballpark" of what the car is worth.

The hard part with a newer model year 2011-13 is that you are competing with new car sale pricing. So the trade-in value is going to be lower than you would expect. I would reccomend a trip to CarMax first and then the dealer of your choice second. If you need more then you would need to look at a private party sale. This will give you the most bang with a newer car.
