Do the 2005s get boost creep? If so, how to get rid of it?
My first post.
Since the 2005s have a bigger turbine housing (the P18 vs P17) than the 2004's, do they suffer from boost creep the same as the 2004's? I ask this because I want to do a turbo-back and after doing searches on this site and reading all the articles I am left more ignorant than when I started. For example: -Porting the wastegate eliminated boost creep -Doing a big flapper guarantees boost creep elimination -Both of these can kill your torque curve. -A divorced wastegate helps eliminate boost creep. -An FCD in conjunction with a divorced wastegate is all you need. -You need engine management no matter what. -2005's don't get boost creep cause they have a P18. So what should I do: -Port it -Just get an FCD and don't worry about it -Make sure I get like a Perrin with the divorced gate -Do nothing cause I have a 2005

Get your TBE and/or AccessPort/UTEC/Ecutek. If you get boost creep, port the wastegate. If you don't get creep, don't worry about it.

Any suggestion on what brand? I was originally thinking of the APS stuff. But then people wrote about the divorced waste gate pipe of the Perrin. I am coming from the Supra world (actually Turbo Lexus), and the Subaru world is quite confusing. So many Micro-Manufacturers, plus the big players. And it seems like the big guys like GReddy and HKS don't make full 3" stuff (they all have tapered connectors??). So I am looking for a good downpipe and Exhaust...that is a single tip and is not loud. And from readin it seems like everone is better than the other one, but the other sometimes is better than everyother one. I've also been thinking about going with the EcuTek, because it seems to be a good balance between the AccessPort and the Utec. Also, is it true that the AccessPort seems less effectice at sea level? |

Get enginemanagement first.
Avoid APS like the plague. IMO EcuTek >> accessport Any questions? |

Oh yea, can any one tune the EcuTek, cause I have had great experience with my tuner. He mostly sells Accel stuff, but I don't think anyone has done a DFI Gen 7 on an STi yet. Exhaust components...which would you reccommend ,taking into consideration that I want a quiet (louder than stock, but not obnoxious) single tip exhaust? Downpipe? I'm not sure which designs are best as there are enough arguments to support everyones design. Thank you, Optimus Prime Autobot Commander |

Well... I personaly like the GPMoto Titanium I have on my car. I must warn you its louder than hell w/o a GPMoto header. It does have a silencer std though so that helps for daily driving. The GPMoto single and twin tips are quieter, and look more OEM.
The other exhausts I have delt with are TXS and a Invidia DP and HKS Carbon-Ti combo. The TXS setup was stupid loud at low rpm, but the current versions seem to have fixed that from what I have seen. Minimal powergain over stock exhaust if using a catted version. The Invidia DP and HKS carbon-Ti is louder than hell, but is good quality stuff. GET THE SILENCER for this. On the Utec... I'd say no unless you are able to tune it yourself correctly, and you do use it correctly. More over I'd get the Reflash, then if you go to a big turbo get the EcuTek reprogramed for the large injectors, and then use a Utec to babysit the big turbo. Last you CAN hit 350WHP with the stock turbo, but you will be running the stock turbo hard, and need to have everything working just right. |

My beef is that the red CAI atleast has a horrible transition right before the sensor that causes issues with the MAF not reading the flow correctly.
Thier exhaust is a horror to put on or take off, and while much of it seems like a good idea... they really needed a couple more revisions before going to market to get it perfect. Not only that but the cat being so close to the turbo is a very bad idea. More so for elevated power levels. Thier turbos tend to underperform anything else in the same "size class" by a large margin. Thier 300HP sized turbo makes less power than the much cheaper VF series turbos. Thier HUGE compressor SR40+ sized turbos also fail to make the power that other turbos do. Do a search and see what STi's do with a SR50. Its frankly pathetic. |

Personally, I like the AccessPort a lot and I think it's better than an ECUTek flash in every way. You don't have to meet with a tuner or send off your ECU everytime you need an adjustment. Essentially, it's the same as ECUTek, but you have control over the reflash youself and can switch between maps whenever you like. Eventually you will be able to edit your own maps as well.
UTEC's are nice, but I have little experience with them. They cost more than the AccessPort or an ECUTek reflash because they allow you to tune everything out of the box (well, almost everything!) As for TBE, I would just get a nice bellmouth dp (invidia, helix, cobb, etc) and the catback of your choice. There are tons of them. Some loud, some quiet, dual-tip, single tip... etc. It's a matter of personal preference. I would just keep the stock airbox. I don't see a real need to upgrade the air intake unless you go with a bigger turbo. |

How about the Greddy Evo II catback mated with a decent (Helix?)downpipe? I figure that would give it a nice open sound at WOT while maintaining a quieter murmer compared to other exhaust options.

I didn't know that the Greddy's were tapered.
Do you plan on running a cat or a cat-less system? I've seen in some posts that if you run with a cat, you shouldn't have a problem with boost creep(enough back pressure would be my guess). But I'm not 100% sure. Just going by what I've read, not by my experience. Hope I helped out more than I hurt Mika |

Well I was talking about the old style before they had the multiple muffler options.
The magnaflow one now seems to be a good quiet system. I'd just get it catless. |
