Default Dyno Tune Cobb/Surgeline, 2.5l, VF52, 2009, WRX

Event: dyno tune
Location:Surgeline/Cobb tuning, Portland Or.
Ambient Temp: 30º
Elevation: Less than 500 ft above sea level.
Weather: sunny, cold, dry.

Car: 2009 WRX sedan
Tuner:Tim Bailey
Dyno Info: Mustang
Engine/Turbo: 2.5L / VF52
Peak HP at RPM: 294 @ 6100
Peak Torque at RPM: 305 @ 3700
Baseline hp/tq 230 hp and 238 tq WRX 2.5L
Target Boost:17.5 psi
Target AFR: Whatever Tim tuned it at
Fuel: 92 Octane Washington State winter gas 10% ethanol
Engine/Power Modifications: Catted Downpipe, K&N drop in air filter, muffler delete pipes
Driveline Modifications: None
Suspension Modifications: None
Other Modifications: None

So I went to Surgeline to add a little power. We added a Cobb catted downpipe, a K&N drop in air filter and Tim started his task of tuning.

It is still running the stock intercooler, airbox, and has the stock sedan exhaust with a resonator but without the mufflers. I deleted the mufflers with a straight pipe. It's a little loud, but nothing like a 2.5 with an Invidia N1 or a TurboXS RFL.

At 17.5 psi it is making 294 hp 305 tq.

He had cranked the boost up to 19, and it was around 305/320 but since it is my daily driver, he suggested we tone it down a little, add a little more fuel and make sure it will run for a good long life.

What a hell of a difference. Gained 64 hp and 67 tq. I am happy to say the least.

+70 whp/wtq with <~$600. i almost want to delay performance mods until new imports come out with 300hp+ stock just so i can have an ace up the sleeve. it seems like the vf52 makes the wrx a whole new beast.

how does it feel? did you do stg1->2 or stock->2?

Went from stock to stage 2. It's an entirely different car. It puts me back in the seat a lot harder than it did stock. It pulls so much harder it is amazing.

The thing that sucks, is I have summer tires on her. The temp hasn't broken freezing for a few days, the tires are cold and hard, so I haven't really been able to get on it very much. It just breaks loose until VDC kicks in. If I turn off VDC, it will just spin rediculously. But when it does grip, it's gone.

Now, next summer can't get here soon enough......wait a minute.....actually I enjoy driving the car in the snow just as much as the summer. haha

Definitely not less than or close to 600.

Catted DP is 600
AP is 600
Tune is 300-500

That said, those numbers are awesome!! I can imagine that power curve + deep gears in a 5spd = a blast to drive!

I can't wait anymore. I've got a ton of parts sitting in the garage waiting to go on in spring.

Mod List Come Spring
- Invidia Catted Downpipe
- Invidia N1 Race Catback
- Invidia Uppipe
- Grimmspeed EBC
- Perrin Intake
- Perrin TMIC
- Perrin Inlet
- Walbro 255 pump
- HKS SSQV
- Cobb AP (tuner unknown)

Any Thought for a WHP number?

Spin ridiculously eh? I'm on a 20g and have never had any wheel spin.

So much money for an additional 10 hp- ditch the bov, uppipe, tmic, inlet and wait till you go bigger turbo

Suspension and brakes are next on the list.

Summer tires + sub freezing temps + driving a car that has more torque than it did the day before = spinning tires...

It has actually warmed up and we're back to our usual 45º weather. Between that and learning to drive my car all over again the wheel slippage is almost none again.

I took the "Cobb Accessport Challenge" so since I purchased the accessport through a Cobb facility, I got the protune for free. That was also how I convinced the wife to let me do this.

It is a lot more fun than I had expected it to be. Getting used to when the power is there is different. Boost kicks in sooner, and redline is higher. So i really is taking some relearning on my part as to how to drive it to get the maximum out of her.

Not everyone wants a bigger turbo, I like response. Plus its a daily driver i spent $27,000 so why not take advantage of the stock turbo. Plus, those are all the mods its getting power wise. I'm going for HellaFlush. BC Coilovers on 18x9.5 gold rota grids.
