Yes.

Default Low/rough idle?

Okie, car has ~150k on it. 97 OB, 2.5 DOHC, 4EAT.

Within the last couple days, whether the motor is warm or cold, it's been having a pretty severe vibration at idle, whether in gear or neutral/park (it's a 4EAT). It's idling at about 500-550 rpms, and it feels like there's a load on the motor when I try to rev; give it gas and it still feels like it's got load, but it's not vibrating.

Based on past experience with other cars, I'm thinking spark plugs/wires/rotor/cap.

Any other suggestions or ideas? It does it in and out of gear (obviously worse in gear) so I think it's a motor issue as opposed to a tranny one, and I'm thinking it's not getting clean spark 100% of the time and so is having to push dead cylinders, which is why it's feeling like it's got load on it at idle and vibrating so bad........

Checked grounds, including aftermarket ones. Changed filter. Need to check MAF, but it runs much worse when that's broken

I'm going to swap back to my stock airbox and see what happens.
Thanks.

Any other ideas? One of the Legacy guys thinks it might be the coil pack, wheeeeee : )

I will most certainly recommend to you, to inspect your sparking system. I had a plug wire go bad on an old car, which threw the motor into violent vibration at all times, and provided virtually no power. Inspect them wires, and come back if it isnt that.

It probably will, unless you have sticking alternator or A/C compressor or something else bad.

Yeah, alt was swapped out ~20k ago, so that's probably fine. Didn't even think about the AC compressor, and don't want to....

It does it whether the AC is on or off, too.

Yeah, I'm getting fuel, it revs fine, too, it's just the idle in gear that's a real problem.

No CEL's, and an update: I'm not dropping $260 on a coil, plugs and wires to test and see if it works, I'll wait till it really breaks

Thnaks for your help, guys

if you really want to know what's wrong w/ it take it to kevin at carlsen or our boy genius mcgyver (adam) from i-speed.

its the little things that can lead to big expensive things when not take care of right away.

Yeah, I know it. Unfortunately, both of those guys are a little far away

I'll probably swing it by a couple of Scoob shops tomorrow and see what I can find, as I know about what little things can do

Well, it would appear to have been the plugs. Big thanks to Joe Brazil for the help on this....
