Question Suspension Setup Help

I figured if there was one place to get all the feedback I could handle on a suspension setup this would be it.

I've been debating coilovers and STI stru/spring combos for my 2005 wrx sedan. I want something high quality and I dont mind having to "pay to play". For all you coilover purists this may seem flame worthy but my reasoning for looking into coilovers has been for the ride height adjustability. (puts on flame suit) I really dont want my ride height to be limited by a spring manufacturer. I also am looking for something with adjustable dampening. My last stipulation is they absolutley have to be forgiving on the street. I plan on tracking the car maybe twice a year, so the majority of my driving will be on older worn roads. I do plan on adding other suspension components to offset the need for the stiffest springs rates available (sways, lateral/trailing links, control arm, strut tower bars) So seemingly I could still get great street performance with a softer spring rate. These are what I have been considering:

STI coilovers
STI adjustable struts (tuned by arai)
Ohlins road and track
Whiteline group 4

What do you guys think?

Of that group I offer all 4 and are not biased at all. After working with Ohlins USA this week, we have come up with some rates specifically for the STi, and revalved for the heavier car. So those would be my first choice then followed by "ARNIES" choice of the Whiteline Group-4 coilovers. Quality and great ride, anf yet adjustable. Followed by the Arai struts and then the Sti coilovers. Qaulity on the Ohlins is incredible. Actually the Ohlins standard rate might be fine for your WRX................and your needs..............

Ps. I didnt even post any "Z pictures............................
but they are in the category thats one or two levels up.

How about the Zeals? Would the B6 be better suited for street?

Out of the Zeal B6, if in fact thats the right one and the Ohlins r & d which would you reccomend?

Any others for my requirements? Go ahead post some Zeals.

Maybe Ground control adjustable springs, with AGX's or Koni's?

I have heard thats a good setup with adjustable ride height and dampening.

Nah I wont post any Zeals,.I wouldnt want to get BANNED from Nasioc,...I already had one thread closed. (There is a saying JAY-Z says all the time, but I wont repeat it..............)

ANyway..............thats a hard call, as both offer certain things. Not to mention both manurfactures watch the threads....so its a coin toss. I feel like I am in a glass bowl some times. .................

I think the Zeals offer more , ,,here is why,..front and rear camber plates, Ohlins dotn offer that. The Zeals you can change ride height separate of pre-load, and the Zeals have extensive devlopment with the Impret-za in Japan. All for about the same price point,........BUTTTTTTTTTT......

You may not NEED the camber plates, anbd you may not NEED the frequent ride height adjustability,.....so its like the kid who goes to school in the Hamptons with a Kevlar vest on,.......OVERKILL ,.in that case. ITs about YOUR needs and what makes you feel good. I am thinking of doing and or trying to design a dampner for the wifes Legacy Gt from the Ohlins lineup, the fronts are easy, the rear will take more effort to figure out. That car I would def want the Road ansd Track Ohlins on,..perfect combo. For me as I am hardcore,.I want the closest thing to a race damper, in terms of options.

Arnie's Choice, heh, heh. "two out of three Arnie's pick the Group 4's over Öhlins"

I'm really interested in trying out the Öhlins setup one of these days. Myles, you sell any to anyone in SoCal I can hook up with? Would love to do a comparo.

Don't worry about the Zeal whoring Myles! I'm just as bad with the Group 4's. Course, I'm not a vendor, just a user.

one thing I don't see anyone even mentioning in this whole forum is DMS golds. They've always had good write-ups, and although they're a little pricey, $2.5K, they're capable of any sort of environment, although, like mentioned before, might be overkill based on YOUR needs...Heck, I've been happy with non-adjustable Prodrive P1 suspension for almost 2 years now, and never needed anything better...

Note for upgrade junkies: If you KNOW what you're gonna want and you KNOW what you're going to do with your car then, indeed, settle on a good compromise for you now. On the other hand, if you are the type where enough is never enough...and you think you'll just do a little here and a little there and stop.......................Well don't do it. Get the overkill NOW. You'll save yourself a TON of money.

How many folks have started out something like this:
Purchase car, in say,2002....
6 months later: Hey, I think I'll do those lowering springs....
6 months later: stock Mac struts blown....
Well, I think I'll do some V8 takeoffs with type C's.......
6 months later: Hey, I hear those Pinks are GGrrrreeeat! I'm gonna 'trow 'em on.
6 months later: Wow, this is a great setup, but I just rode in a buddy's car on "X" coilover and DANG, I just got to get a set of those....
6 months later: Well, stiff is stiff, but now that I am tracking my car, I am going to have to go to remote resevoir custom spec'd Ohlins/Moton/Zeal..................

From what I hear the Whiteline Group4 coilovers are very comfortable due to their soft spring rate; they are setup to be a compromise coilover which can work in nearly any situation. Since you don't plan on doing any real competition, just a track day on rare occasion then these would probably work well for you. Everything else listed I think is a little more aggressive than what you would be looking for. Using swaybars to help would most definitely be advantageous; due to the soft spring rate of the Whiteline's I would definitely go for a quite large front bar (24-25mm) and medium sized rear bar (22-24mm.)

Myles, what do you mean by censored? Or are you just more sensitive now?

Myles was "scolded" for allegedly vending on another thread. I think it was someone named subaruwoman or something like that.

no more bumping.

if people were interested in the PRODUCT they'd bump the thread
when A VENDOR bumps the thread continuously, it is called VENDING.

this thread was reported by the members of this forum complaining of vendor advertising outside of the vendor forum

Please keep advertising in the VENDOR CLASSIFIEDS.

Hey Myles, What do you think about the Prodrive AST? As far as what its supposed to be like it may be a setup that would fill my needs. Do you know if its height adjustable?

I think it may be a while before that is actually available. I tend to consider formats that are used in motorsports with great success. The levels of motorsports closest to the street car they are going on. My only concern would be,.how long will it actually take to make it to production....
