The hill assist is the only thing that is going to piss me off when I get mine. I've been driving stick for 10 straight years now and I know how to handle a standard on a hill. I wish there was a quick and easy was to disable it!!

Hoping Cobb will figure out how to make it so it can be disabled with an AP!!

it can be disabled, read the user manual.
This has been discussed in it's own thread at least 5 times on this forum alone, and mentioned no less then twice in this thread alone, which isn't even on topic.

The thing is, I don't feel like the dealer is doing it on purpose. Every time I talk to him, he's apologetic, he knows how frustrated I am. And I'm sure he's frustrated too.

I'm fairly certain that Subaru is just doing a piss poor job of communicating to them because they seem to be completely in the dark. I almost consider myself better informed through this thread than they are.

The simple fact is, it shouldn't be this way.

I'd search this forum on this info. I've never had first hand experience but I believe that warranty claims can be and have been denied due to an AP. Like you mentioned, our checksum number will differ even if it has been un married, and that may be enough to deny your claim for any engine work.

What is wrong with hill assist? Why disable it? I've had both and it's a nice feature and I would never disable it. Is this one of those old school things....damn technology!!!!!

IDK I just don't like the sensation of it. I'm so used to the car being able to roll back when I'm taking off it's just weird to me. I've only driven with it for a few mins while I drove my buddies WRX for a few miles so maybe I'll get used to it. It would just be nice to know I know at least disable it if I wanted to.

Plus sometimes when come to a stop you just wanna roll back a little (ie. in a parking spot) you just leave the clutch depressed when you stop to roll back. With hill assist you have to let go on the clutch to be able to roll back. Again not a big deal to get used to, it would just be nice to be able to disable it if I wanted. Same goes for traction control. I've never owned a car with it before so I'm sure it's gonna take a little getting used to, but at least I can turn that system off when I want.

It's only on for maybe two seconds then you roll back. I want to say I think it's only on when you are in gear as well...have to check that.

The hill assist cannot be disabled on the WRX, only STI.

And if you say we're wrong again, you come down here and I'll watch you try to disable it on mine.

And it is not a nice feature... maybe if I had a switch to turn it on or off you could argue it's a nice feature, but having it forced on 100% of the time does more harm than good.

I'm going to get the factory service manual and see what it says. If I can get the schematic for it, or at least some more info on where the thing that pulls the parking brake is, I'll get it disabled one way or another.

i did. i originally saw this from Cobb and backed it up with a call to them -

There are a few scenarios where the calibration id might not match the SOA/dealer's records upon an attempted or perceived uninstall of the AP:

1. If the ROM image has been modified from the factory ROM before the AP is installed. For example, if the car had an Ecutek or open source tune on it, the AP will back-up that tuned ROM and put it back on when you uninstall.

2. If the AP is not uninstalled via the "AccessPORT - Uninstall" menu option (or that process fails to complete). Note: reflashing the "installed stock mode" map is not an uninstall and does not restore the original backed-up ROM image.

3. If the AP was sent in for repair or replaced for some reason after it was installed and the backed-up ROM image was not or could not be transferred to the new AP.

That said, we do not make any guarantees that the Subaru will never be able to detect the AP after it has been uninstalled. Subaru can be very sneaky about implementing this type of functionality. We do know of the current flash counter that exists in the ROM in later models, but this does not impact the AP since we restore the original ROM when you uninstall (barring the issues described above). But, that does not mean that new functionality doesn't exist that we are not aware of. Given the explanation by the dealership however, this doesn't sound like anything new, but we can't rule that out.

Bill
i realized that infinitely more people have had no warranty issues with unmarried APs than those who have had issues, so i took the slight risk.

If you figure this out PLEASE let me know how you got it to work!!!! As much as I think I could MAYBE get used to it...I would rather not have to. Like I said I've been driving stick for 10+ years now without it and have never had an issue rolling backwards.

Some times you can use rolling back to your advantage like when someones right on your ass sitting at a red light. The look on peoples faces are priceless.

DS this issue on 2013 WRX has already been discussed recently on a different thread. The fact is hill-assist cannot be disabled on WRX model and is only an STI feature. And hill-assist will only engage if you're in 1st gear on an incline. You can look for proof in the online manual for the 2013 WRX/STI. If you're disabling this feature by other means (cutting a wire or something like that) you'll risk damaging your traction control system.

Lol well of course you can disable it by cutting wires and ****. I'm talking about a way to easily disable it without hacking a brand new 2013 wire harness.

Anyone heard a timeline for NW/Seattle orders? I place an order for a base hatch on 9/30 with short throw, all weather matts and a rack with no news from the dealer yet(i do have a VON and SOA confirmed that it isn't on hold).
It does looks like the local deal websites have added a number of cars to their sites lately with the "in transit" tag on them but my dealer has said that he's seems cars ordered around my time beginning to have eta's. Seems like a delivery is coming in soon?

Maybe because I had it in 1st then put in neutral it still did it...either way I did it when it wasn't in gear and it held the car when I took my foot off the brake. I did this today in my driveway.
