If circulation wasn't restored fast enough, necrosis could have occurred and possibly damaged the tissue beyond repair... terrible! I wish him a speedy recovery...

Heard he's out of intensive care... hope his surgeries go well.

First interview with Kubica after the wreck - sounds like he's doing well.

Another along the same lines - the part at the end talking about the blood loss is pretty hardcore:

What I think is the most amazing part is how you can hear the tremendous concern in the driver and co-driver in the next car. You can literally hear their voice tremble and their breathing is intense and clearly that of someone petrified for another human being.

If he can regain enough range of motion, he can always jack up the power steering.

Will he race again? Who knows. But he'll back in an F1 car at some point, that's just about certain. Of course someone will give him the chance to get into a car when/if he wants to. In fact, there would be a line forming to do so.

no, it isnīt certain. There is no contract with Lotus anymore, and there is no contact anymore.

And after the Maria de Villota case no F1 team will accept a driver with a handicap

Are you serious? You don't teams will be offering him test time in an F1 car if he seems to be able?

You're nuts. This was one of THE best guys on the grid a year and a half ago. There will be PLENTY of teams who are at least curious enough to see what he has to offer.

Beyond that, I'm sure there are enough team owners who'd give him a go at it, if for no other reason than it's a nice gesture.

You're absolutely 100% WRONG if you think he will never drive an F1 car again. Matter of fact, if he wanted to get into an F1 car in the next month, he would be.

Not saying he'll race again, but absolutely silly of you (which is common) to think he won't turn the wheel of an F1 car again.

Saying you make "silly" posts is name calling?

Again, I said, of course, we can't be sure if he'll ever race in F1 again. But YOU said, contrary to my point, that he wouldn't necessarily drive an F1 car again.

If he wants to, you're nuts to think there isn't more than one team on the grid that would give him the opportunity.

Matter of fact, I'll paypal you $10 if he doesn't turn the wheel of an F1 car again. Because, at this point, you're being "silly" if you think he won't.

He's targeting a 2013 or 2014 return TO THE GRID. You think he's doing that doubting whether or not he'll even get a chance to test a car?

Not sure if serious...

I'd say an update on his recovery progress is pretty f'ing relevant to the thread abouthis injury.

If anything, it's a good place to put it, rather than starting a new thread.

Accident was 2 years ago. New thread would be more relevant. That's why we don't have an F1 thread that we keep going since the beginning of time.

If I were to create a thread that Schumacher was retiring, I would not bump a thread from 2006 when he retired the first time, or from 1999 when he broke his leg.

Find something else to care about, you're being ridiculous.

Less threads are encouraged. It was a perfectly fine spot for it.

This is an update on the original thread. This is the EXACT correct place for his post.

You new around here?

Really? So I guess that's why there is an annual F1 season thread AND an individual thread for each race.

Got it.

That's because his retirement now would not be the same as his retirement from years ago - it's two (or three) separate episodes. If you can't understand the difference between the examples you've provided and this continuing story about Kubica's crash and subsequent medical recovery and return to racing, well, I can't help you.

Bingo.

And I agree with REX8 that Kubica will without a doubt be back in an F1 car again. Whether he'll make it back to the grid remains to be seen, but I'm certain that some team (if not multiple teams) will give him a shot.

I hope he can make it back into F1. Unfortunately if you look at the video where he is spraying the champagne his right hand has no strength. He is just holding the bottle to keep it steady and there is little motion. He quickly pulls it away and uses his left hand for all else including the hand shake.

The reports I hear are that he drove the car mostly with one hand. His injured hand was just there to hold the wheel steady. He must have been able to use it for the hand brake though. You can see he has paddle shifters on the left side of the steering wheel in one of the vids, can't see the right side.
