Stuck my head under an new WRX and...
...it looked very familiar.
A few of our local Impreza guys got together and play some pool last night. We had heard a rumour that the new WRX was on display at West Edmonton Mall, so, we looked around and sure enough...there she was in all her RBP glory and a disgusting decal job trying to make it look like a rally car. I had heard that the new and old shared similar/same suspension, so I got down on the floor in the middle of a busy shopping mall and stuck my head under the car. My observations... - ~18mm rear bar with heavier sway bar mounts than what we have on the RS. - Same crappy plastic end-links for both F&R. - Front bar looks the same but not 100% sure. The WRX is supposed to be slightly wider than the RS but I'm sure if this is due to a wider track or the flared fenders. Who knows?? *shrug* I only hope that the suspension measurements and geometries are identical because then I can swap the parts in a few years when I decide to get a WRX.

That's funny! What other type car nuts other than Subarunuts would be climbing around under a car looking for certain specs in a shopping mall?

Petrie,
Of course once I started looking and pointing things out, we had 4-5 guys all lying on their backs looking under the car. I'm sure passer-bys were laughing. Penphoe, I was on my back, not on all fours. That's the way I like it. RidinLow, Like I said, not 100% sure about the front bar, but even your pic of the endlinks, they look like plastic. Who knows? Hey what are these endlink pieces that you guys are talking about? Should I be worried that it is plastic?

Really? I think they look metallic, although I didn't touch them to find out. Hard to believe that a skinny cylinder made from plastic could survive the forces the bar would produce.

Here you are little thread. Thanks Imprezer, should have posted here originally.
RidinLow, Agreed, but you would think that the rear links being subjected to larger bending forces due to the "U" shape would be under more stress and they're in the back. Also remember that some plastics have a much higher tensile strength than steel although I highly doubt that Subaru went to that expense for some lousy endlinks. Cheers, MB |
