I was very interested in this post, then i saw the price.
A beater for 3000??? My idea of a beater has less miles that that and costs less than a sixth of the price. Say for example a 1984 toyota tercel 5 speed for 500$. I helped a freind find a car like this and he has already put 25k on the car, and he only had to replce the thermostat and have the carb adjusted. A little off topic but the only reason anyone would pay for a car like that is because of the honda/acura name. |

Yup. Me too.....I work at a Honda dealership, and for a car like that, we would probably give a couple hundred bucks....no offense.

Ill say it again, only because the honda name. A far better car could be had for the money.
Just recently a 1990 subaru legacy LS wagon awd with all options and a near perfect interior (decent outside) 110k miles from a car sales place for just over 3000 total (including fees). Now which would you rather have, a 2wd 1989 honda with 130 peak torque or an AWD 1990 subaru with peak torque of 144? |

Now you know that he is giving you a like a trade in value...
Most dealerships will not even want it unless they can make money on it or sell it. Usually they have those wholesale folks that come in and they pick up all the cars that are old like that. So someone buys a new car, trade in the Honda for $5-600 and they unload it on the wholesaler for $7-800 and he sells it for $3k after he buffs it cleans it etc etc.... Actually I sold my old 90 Mazda 626 last year when I bought my WRX for exactly $2k and that incuded the smog. Anyway as you said you are just publishing the info. No need to argue if he is going to accept an offer of $500. Cheers and good luck selling it. T. |
