I won't part with my iphone yet or the new one. However, as soon as Verizon gets them I'll be saying "Peace ATT"

With the iPhone 4G OS on the way, with folders, I can see getting most of the larger files (video) on the home computer and pushing it to the phone. I would think that AT&T would know how many people use what, and I do believe that it really is 98% of the people using 2GB or less... I see nothing wrong right now... what this is going to do is limit using the iFad with NetFlix as many people have been clamoring for (unless it's through home WiFi, then it's not really an over the air bandwidth issue, is it?) --kC |

I am glad I don't have a data plan. I don't use it. I have internet and can use that all I want and can do email and all the rest of it but Verizon doesn't consider that "data" until I start sending pictures and crap...which I don't do. I get all the internets I want on my phone for 10$ a month.

"Current AT&T subscribers will be allowed to keep the unlimited plan, even if they renew their contracts."
That's all that matters to me. |

ATT has already lobbied to lower the caps on the "unlimited" data plan. I know when I was traveling, I received 2 warning letters from them about my data usage, and I didnt have an iPhone. In both cases, I used a hair over 4GB of data for the month in each case. I wont even discuss the threatened overage charge past the 5GB point. Then theres this from a while ago: http://www.pcworld.com/article/18409...sers_more.html If you think that youre in the clear because youre on a current plan, sad to say, youre going to be sorely mistaken. |

So you're in that 2% of people over 2GB. Congrats. You are a power user. AT&T may not be for *you*.
As AT&T said, 98% of the users DON'T EVEN USE 2GB. How much of that 4GB you used could have been aquired through WiFi instead of through the cellular network? --kC |

I understand why they're doing this. My iPhone is damn near useless during the day in the city where I work.

Wow. Since July 30, 2009 (last stat reset) I've downloaded total of 2.4GB over the cell network. Apparently I do all my heavy usage over wifi. Hello, new cheap plan!

This space reserved for future stories about some guy's crib midget racking up $20k in a month going way over the data plan limit, and he refuses to pay.

I'm sure every other phone company is about 30 seconds behind on this. :unamaused: I know Verizon or Sprint was the first to tier their data plans about a month ago. All cell companies are horrible.
15 days into this billing cycle I am at 1019mb. Looks like I'll be cutting it pretty close to 2gb. I do a lot of web browsing and emailing, but not much streaming radio. Some of the rumored features of the new iphone are going to use a TON of bandwidth. It'll be interesting to see how that goes. edit: My last six months in gigabites look like: 1.7 1.7 2.0 2.0 2.2 2.6. grant |

I hate US cell phone companies. With the deals and rates my brother can get in the UK, its almost cheaper to get a plan from there and pay international roaming charges.

how do you use so much data? I recently tried out the Backflip for a month (hated it) but I used that thing all day every day. Streamed a ton of music for hours on end. For the month (25 days) I used.... just over 125mb |
