Low boost applications
I'm posting because I'm having problems with my boost controller. So a quick question: does the boost controller only add "tension" to the stock wastegate spring so you can make the boost more and not less?
I just can't seem to get my boost down to 6psi. I'm using a simple boost controller made by Vishnu. Is there a way to adjust the stock wastegate by the nut on the arm? Thanks. Brent

the boost controller <FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND BUT AM 99% SURE ITS HOW IT WORKS> merely vents pressure so that the wastegate only sees a certain pressure, allowing the gate to open or stay closed, but it all comes down to the wastegate spring
if u mess w/ that arm, ull lower the rpm boost comes in at, which will suck i believe the stock wrx turbos WG is 7psi? maybe 9? what trurbo r u runnin Last edited by White 2.5rs; 05-28-2004 at 09:56 AM. |

I think it is 8psi, some where right around there. It's the TD04.
Yeah, I wasn't even gonna touch the arm because I know how easy it is to mess something up like that. |

the wastegate spring sets the minimum boost pressure, and adding a boost controller will only allow you to make more pressure than that.
the stock WRX wastegate opens at 8 psi with no other form of boost control. I do not know the solution to your problem, sorry. |

As a temporary solution, you can just adjust the wastegate actuator to hold the wastegate slightly open at all times. It will really hurt spool-up, but you will get lower peak boost.

Yeah, but that 2 psi totally throws my timing off.
Charlie, do I tighten or loosen that nut? Brent |

Adjust the arm to make it slightly longer, and preload the spring in the wastegster actuator, but not quite enough to open the valve. You should be able to get it to open at 5-6 by playing with it.

I'll see what I can do with the arm.
What about replacing the spring in the wastegate actuator? |
