Post Anybody ever have to rent a car for a few weeks?

I just sold my Explorer today but now I don't have a car to drive. My Impreza won't be at the dealership for probably 3-4 more weeks.

Has anybody ever rented a car that long? If so how much did it cost and are there any deals by the week, etc? Or how about any deals thru the net?

Anybody ever have to do this?

Thanks!

Chris

I have to rent cars all the time for work when I travel. Most car places have weekly rates and probably some monthly rates as well.

As far as discounts, look around. Most of the car rental places have discounts for many organizations. Just have to ask.

One thing worth mentioning is that many rental companies have "insurance rates" that are much lower than regular rates because they usually only issue them when your car is in the body shop. I guess the idea is that they lower the rates a little bit because you're probably going to be renting for an extended period of time. So you should mention that your car is "in the shop" down the street, and you'll probably get a lower rate. This, at least, works with Enterprise, and probably others.

The agency wouldn't check into something like this? It seems like they would if they are giving a lower rate. I dunno... It might be worth a shot.

There are two rental companies that I know about that have very competitive rates for long term rents. One is Agency and the other is Enterprise Rent a car. They typically are not located at airports. Both companies do a lot of renting to people that have car wrecks and need a ride for a few weeks. When you talk to the rental company, ask about special rates. You never know if you don’t ask.

Good luck.

If you have a good credit card, you should not have to get the additional insurance. Your card should cover it. Just call to check.

what about buying some POS car just for transportation? An old civic or something? You could probably get one for 300 or so. Might be way cheaper than renting one.

Just a thought.
