I was in 1st grade. Remember it like it was yesterday. im on long island so im not too far away and i knew people who were there. the hardest part is every year when they replay it all 100 times on tv and you see the people jumping from the windows because they have no other choice. its horrible. makes me want to start hitting people.

Can't ever forget. I bumped the original thread so some of the younger folks realize the enormity of the events of that day, even in our small online community.

Coming up on 12 years. I still remember seeing this on TV in high school, not believing it.

Once again we must NEVER FORGET. Take the time tomorrow to thank a First Responder, someone in the Armed Forces, or even just another citizen since everyone pitched in 12 years ago. How quickly forget who and why we were attacked....

I moved to NYC in August of 2001. I was a freshman in college when the planes hit the twin towers. I am still living in NYC and have never left. It is the greatest city in the world even for a Subaru owner. I will never forget.

Default Help for my soldier son and his 2002 WRX Impreza

I am brand new to the NASIOC and was invited by my friend Craig Pester from Alaska NASIOC... he suggested I try to ask if there is someone that can help my son.

NY Tri-State Subaru Forum members.

My name is Tony Scoringe and I am posting here to ask your help for my son David***8230; he is 20 yrs and a Cavalry Scout in the USArmy based at Ft. Drum, Watertown NY. Recently he bought a 2002 WRX Impreza. A few weeks after be started driving it the clutch blew and he had to get that replaced at a local auto-shop. He just finished paying off that work when he was coming back from dropping an Army buddy at Syracuse airport and the threw a rod. He tried several sources for replacement straight or a blueprinted block with no luck. Last week he bought a core block and had the same auto-shop install that, they have just informed him that basically the core was junk and now they have done the work it still doesn't run but he has to pay anyway. He is in the barracks at Ft Drum without access to the base auto-shop, or a garage because of his duty hours. As of today he is looking to get it towed back to base until we can figure out what to do next. I am in Seattle and can't get there to work on it with him to get this right and in decent running shape. He has spent all the $ he has and more to try and get this working to no avail.

I am hoping there are some good-hearted Subaru experts in the NY area that can reach out to him and help, either at the base or in your garage nearby.

Thank you for any advise or help you are able to offer us.

Tony ([email protected])... my apologies if anyone is offended for me including this in the 9/11 I didn't see any other forums that were relevant.

It's been 14 years already I still can't believe what had happen to our country on this day. I was in my junior year in high school and today I stand as a EMT. I pray for all the people and all first responders. If God forbid if this ever happened again I will go help the people in need because that's what I stand for.

Default My 2002 WRX will always remind me of 9/11

I bought my 2002 WRX in March 2001. I drove it from Jersey City to the NJ/PA border and back after witnessing the events of the day...

Back then I had an apartment on the 14th floor of the Portofino building on 2nd Street in JC. My typical morning commute was take the Harborside ferry to WFC, then walk up Vesey Street past the WTC North tower, to my offices at 222 Broadway.

The morning of 9/11, I had originally planned to attend the Waters Risk Technology conference at Windows on the World. Last minute - I decided not to attend - and go to my work offices instead. No-one attending the conference survived, including some of my work colleagues.

As I walked up Vesey, I heard the loud sound of an airplane gunning its engines. I looked up and saw what I thought was a large American Airlines 737 banking sharply then hitting the north tower 1/2 a block away from me. My first thought was one of absolute shock and horror. I had just seen hundreds of people die in a split second. Then my survival instinct must have kicked in. Growing up in Belfast in the '70s & '80s and witnessing bombing campaigns in London in the '90s - you learn pretty quickly, if you can't help - you have got to get out of the way fast - or you become part of the problem.

I turned around and headed back to the ferry terminal - telling everyone I could they should get back on the ferry, go home and get out of the way. Few people heeded my advice.

On the ferry on the way back to JC, I watched the second plane the United Airlines marking clearly visible, fly fast and low over the Hudson, bank then hit the south tower. I was in utter disbelief at that point. But it confirmed for me that it was a terror attack. The first plane might have been gunning it's engines and banking to avoid the tower, but not 2 planes doing almost the exact same thing. Turns out the planes banked to inflict maximum destruction and death.

I went straight back to my 14th floor apartment and called my brother in London to let him know I was safe. Co-incidentally, 9/11 is his birthday. Bizarre conversation when I think back on it: "Happy birthday bro. Have you seen the news on the planes hitting the WTC? Turn on your tv. Tell the rest of the family and friends back in the UK that I'm safe. Communications may become crazy to impossible...". At that point in time I was looking at the WTC towers both out my window on on the tv...and saw the south tower start to collapse. I knew the hundred of deaths just became thousands.

That was my divide by zero moment. Something inside my head snapped. I grabbed the keys of my WRX, and drove out to the back roads of NJ & PA to try to find sanity in driving.

Postscript - immediately after 9/11 my WRX served me well. I had to commute daily from JC out to Jericho in Long Island for a couple of months. Our main offices in the WFC and 222 Broadway were shut - and we had to use backup locations. That was an amazing period. We moved technology mountains in a short space of time to get the business back up and running. The camaraderie was phenomenal.

I consider my very lucky to be alive, and blessed to be driving the same WRX on the same NJ/PA back roads...

Sorry I missed this when posted.
Data centers, I was working for a company that did UPS battery monitoring, we had equipment in the one tower as well as the DB site next to the towers and other locations within a few blocks.
There is a large DR site by the Meadowlands that was swamped by the 9/11 events. Look up "SunGard", I have been in there as well.

Good call on calling family ASAP, all phone stuff (landlines, cell, VoIP) either were swamped or went offline. I know, I was in 2 DC's near the Meadowlands the morning it happened. I couldn't get a call out.

Totally agree.

As an aside, when I got home that night (NNJ), I looked at my wife and asked, "what kind of world are we bring up 2 kids (6 & 4) in?".
I remember the air raid drills in school when I was a kid (60's-70's).

And yes (as I have mentioned in this thread), I "worked the pile" when I was in town.

Next anniversary is only weeks away.
